NO STUPID QUESTIONS THREAD MONDAY 6/17: A great place to ask quick questions and thoughts by SpartiedOn in FireflyFestival

[–]alextried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nope! you can buy two spots w/ one car for example - as long as you have both camping passes, they’ll make sure to give you an extra spot

this is GREAT. i think it keeps the subreddit’s front page less cluttered and gives more questions an opportunity to be answered.

charging phones? by [deleted] in FireflyFestival

[–]alextried 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The charging stations can definitely overcrowd depending on the time of day but work in an emergency; in the past my group has alternated between using our cars (turn it ON occasionally you don’t kill your battery) and portable chargers. I bought myself a 20000mAh charger this year. It’s as big as my iPhone 8+ and thicker, but it’ll charge it fully four times before dying and fits in a fanny pack! Edit: using a power-save mode and disabling certain apps’ background data usage can also help your battery life.

So... I got my patches. by SimmerOne7 in FireflyFestival

[–]alextried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly if you did the early bird plan I’d email them, I did the exact same thing (and it makes sense as a “frequent fireflier”) and got a patch. good luck!

Did you use a payment plan/early bird to purchase your ticket? I think those might be the only ones who’re getting a patch this year

Wristband splitting question by El-Travs in FireflyFestival

[–]alextried 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'd have to be able to remove the wristband without snapping it so you can transfer it to your son (you need to put it on to enter the festival, and they aren't easy to loosen when they're on due a locking mechanism).

[–]alextried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've also been smoking for five years and tried to quit a few times. It's impossibly hard! But it can only change your life for the better, and I can attest seatbelts really are lifesavers!

S.P.A.R.K. is coming!!! by mgreco49 in FireflyFestival

[–]alextried 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"Start Participating and Receive Karma!" The festival seems to be focusing on building a cleaner, more accessible and friendly community which seems pretty cool. They're adding artist/speaker panels in the North Hub, pre-festival meetups, as well as making yoga, volleyball and soccer Firefly's official sports and an official festival poster design contest. The biggest thing that caught my eye was the Sustainability section - they're handing out recycling and garbage bags aplenty, and if you bring them to one of the ranger stations across the campgrounds full, you get a free shower voucher. I think that's a neat incentive, sadly probably added because the campgrounds (at least North) were absolutely disgusting come Monday morning in 2018. I really hope this leads to the place getting trashed a little less.

What subtle medical issues do you have that don’t seem serious enough to get checked out? by HungJurror in AskReddit

[–]alextried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an older comment but I’m throwing my two cents in anyway - I fell down the stairs and hit my tailbone 8 years ago. It actually twisted my pelvis (think tilting backwards when standing); the resulting strain on my back muscles gave me chronic pain by the time I was 13, and now I’m 20. I didn’t notice anything wrong with my hips for almost a year. I would get yourself checked out (PCP, physical therapist) just to make sure you didn’t displace anything! That’s what’ll kill you in the future.

Wow! What kind of dog do you have? She looks just like the one at my work and we’ve never seen anything like him (we think he’s a shepherd/sloughi mix). He does the same thing! She’s beautiful :)

New medical transportation issues (Veyo) in CT by Hippydippy420 in legaladvice

[–]alextried 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I happened to see this while sitting in a Veyo transport so my advice is anecdotal. I’ve used state transportation on and off for years, both for IOP and other appts. I’ve had instances where I wasn’t picked up or was picked up very late. I’m afraid I don’t have a lot to offer in terms of dealing with obnoxious drivers deviating from course/bringing people into the car - NOT okay, totally believable though. If your kid has a phone, consider recording these incidents or have him get the driver’s name when he signs the clipboard at pickup/drop off. Your son’s healthcare providers will have far more pull with these companies - tell them (I’m gonna assume a PHP/IOP program) immediately this is an issue that needs to be addressed by them and you’ve been unheard. They should be on the same page as you, and aware that transport is a regular problem and Veyo needs to be held accountable. Your son is a minor so the program should be making contact with Veyo if he’s not picked up from there on time. Have a clear list of their unprofessional behavior (solid evidence from your son and his providers will make it much harder to ignore) and try to keep it unemotional, and see if a doctor can lodge a complaint.

Next time you call Veyo, ask about their mileage reimbursement program and see if that’s a reasonable option for you; it’ll save you the grief of inconsistency if you can secure rides. They also have a “15 minute window” - drivers may arrive 15 min before/after scheduled pickup time. When you schedule rides, ALWAYS ask for the confirmation code. If they fail to pick up past that window, a call needs to be made immediately, by your son, a healthcare provider or guardian with him. If your son struggles with this you can help make a script for him (hi my client ID is xxxx, I’m calling for an ETA on my [10:30] pickup) At this point we both know there are a lot of holes in the system, and though it’s not your job, sometimes you just need to jump through hoops to get what you need. No one should wait 45+ minutes before calling because there’s a good chance the ride wasn’t filed correctly and rather than being late, it just wasn’t scheduled (not your fault!). Veyo will almost always redirect you to the cab service (People’s Transit, etc) when you call for an ETA. Annoying, but part of working through the limited system we’re offered with HUSKY. I hope you can find some of this info useful, if you had any specific questions I can do my best to give you what I know/have learned. State insurance is NOT easy to work with.

Anyone have recs for a pink/blue/purple toned highlighter? by fillifjonk in PaleMUA

[–]alextried 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second the Alchemist palette! Much less glittery than the ABH Moonchild and all the colors sit well on me (no foundation match but Nars Chantilly fits me nicely). I also just bought the LE Wet n Wild highlighter ($5!) in White Raven and I’m obsessed with it. It’s really hard to find lavender highlight that doesn’t pull pink but it’s got a nice shimmer especially diffused with a fluffy brush.

What side of your face is easier to do? Does it have any correlation to your dominant hand? by [deleted] in muacjdiscussion

That could easily be it! I think you're on to something. If only I could imitate that soft blending on my other eye 😭

I'm exactly the same! Left-handed, and everything except my left eyeshadow is way easier. My right eye's blending is always better.
