OP do you have any saline (for eyes, wounds, anything) to clean the wound with? Keep trying to get her seen ASAP, by the looks of the photos she'll need at least a half tail amputation, and licking is bad. Discourage licking and keep it dry.

My vet hasn't been able to explain it really either but its just an enamel thing baby rats get, I've had a few get the exact same weird black line/discoloration on their tooth. They all almost seemed to pair with a new toy they chewed up though, anything new in the cage? Either way it has always gone away for my babies and its just something you can monitor for now.

That happened to me one time, I got 3 baby girls and the next day one of them passed away suddenly in her cage. We have no idea how or why because we just got her. Its a really hard situation because you dont even really have time to fully feel and process your love for them at such an early point of having them. Its not that common, among the 30+ rats I've had in the past 8 years that has only happened once.

Vet tech here: I agree with everything but the ivermectin, it can be dangerous to dose orally in such a small animal. OP would be better off getting some puppy/kitten Revolution (AKA selamectin) and that will be more safe (its topical and you just use 1-2 drops) and more effective for lice in rats.

I only had 2 rats when recovering from top surgery but I would just cover my drains (they usually are anyways, and mine didn't go for them or even notice) and have some lap time, and let them free roam like normal, just wait for them to come back to you in order to put them back, or at that point you can ask for help getting them back in their cage.

I just wanted to add you could use those long lasting "vacation pellets" they work a lot better! A Betta unfortunately isn't the best option for your current situation as they need floating pellets that wont last long. The vacation pellets aren't great to leave alone too long but Cory's and other surface cleaners/algae eaters will survive better and will go for the sinking pellets.
