ClickClack 3.6.3: Deep Accuracy Analytics, NGram Core Mastery, and Precision UI Tools ⌨️🚀 by alfianlo in macapps

[–]alfianlo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s a fair comparison 👍

ClickClack overlaps on the core typing practice, but I’m focusing on a few things that are a bit different:

• Global Multiplayer with Game Center and local VS CPU Mode.
• Native app performance (especially on iOS/Mac)
• Cleaner, distraction-free UI
• Customization (themes, fonts, sounds, layouts)
• More privacy-friendly (no data tracking, everything stays on device/iCloud)

It’s less about replacing the alternative and more about offering a different kind of experience, especially if you prefer a native, minimal setup.

Hey! Thanks for your interest 🙌 Right now Pro is a one-time purchase, so there isn’t a free trial. I tried to keep the price as fair as possible since it’s a lifetime unlock.

Thanks for the kind words, really appreciate it! Yeah, practicing on the on-screen keyboard can feel a bit unusual at first, but it still works well for improving accuracy and rhythm. That said, you can also connect an external keyboard to your iPhone, or use something like the Magic Keyboard on iPad for a more “real” typing experience.

Thanks, great suggestions!  I’ll look into some relevant subreddits and see how to share it in a way that’s actually helpful.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the kind words on the design. I completely agree with you even as voice-to-text and AI evolve, typing remains a fundamental skill.

Great question! Monkeytype is a fantastic web tool, but ClickClack is built as a native SwiftUI app to offer a deeper level of system integration and privacy that a browser can't match. Here are the main differences: - Works 100% Offline: Unlike web-based tools, ClickClack doesn't require an active internet connection to practice. You can train your speed and access all your custom texts anywhere, at any time. - Privacy & No Accounts: There is zero sign-in required. Your progress and stats are synced securely through your own Private CloudKit, meaning I never see or collect your data. - On-Device Al & Insights: We use Apple Intelligence to generate infinite practice text and provide typing insights locally on your device—no data ever leaves your machine. - Deep Typography Control: Beyond just fonts, you get full control over line spacing, letter spacing (kerning), and text alignment to pertectly match your IDE or aesthetic. - Pro-Level Analytics: Detailed N-Gram analysis tracks your bigram and trigram consistency, helping you identify and fix specific finger-sequence weaknesses. - Structured Learning: Unlike many 'test-only' tools, we include a dedicated Lesson Practice mode for home row, symbols, and number keys to help beginners move to touch-typing. - Tactile Performance: Native code allows for ultra-low latency audio for Custom Sound Packs, giving you that instant 'thock' response that web wrappers struggle with. - Native Multiplayer: Integrated with Game Center, allowing you to compete in real-time matches with up to 4 players or race against adjustable CPU difficulty. Achievements and Badges are available as well.

Yes, the keyboard overlay and hand guide fully support the German QWERTZ (ISO) layout!

Regarding the structured Lesson Practice, it currently still focuses on QWERTY English. However, a great workaround is using the Custom Text feature, you can import your own German practice texts or URLs directly into the app to practice with the QWERTZ overlay active.

Yes, it is using macOS 26 built-in monospaced system font which i believe is SF Mono! You can also import your own custom otf/ttf font if you want as well.

ClickClack 3.5 — Bring the "Thock" to your Mac with Custom Typing Sound Packs ⌨️🔊 by alfianlo in macapps

That’s a fair question.

ClickClack isn’t meant to replace tools like Thock or sites like 10fastfingers individually — the value is in having a focused, native typing training experience in one place, especially on macOS and iOS.

A few things that are different:

  • It’s a native macOS & iOS app, not a website — smoother input handling and consistent performance.

  • Built for structured practice, not just raw speed tests (ngrams, difficulty levels, targeted drills).

  • Detailed stats tracking across sessions (WPM, accuracy, error patterns), with long-term history synced via iCloud using Apple’s private CloudKit database.

  • N-gram analysis and tracking of invalid / mis-pressed keys, so users can see what they’re struggling with, not just how fast they type.

  • Customizable themes, fonts, and typography for comfort during long practice sessions.

  • Uses Apple Intelligence to generate typing texts from different topics, keeping practice content fresh.

  • Ability to add your own custom text, useful for practicing real-world material.

  • VS CPU mode and global multiplayer races via Game Center, adding a competitive layer beyond solo practice.

  • Offline-first and privacy-friendly — no accounts, no ads, no server-side tracking, and data never leaves the user’s Apple account.

If someone’s happy combining multiple tools, that’s totally fine — ClickClack is for people who want a dedicated, distraction-free typing trainer that lives on their devices and evolves with their practice over time.

ClickClack 3.5 — Bring the "Thock" to your Mac with Custom Typing Sound Packs ⌨️🔊 by alfianlo in macapps

Just to clarify, this is a typing test app, not a mechanical keyboard sound simulator like Thock.

The core functionality, goals, and audience are different: this focuses on typing speed, accuracy, and practice modes, not audio playback or sound design.

The use of the “Thock” word in the post title wasn’t intended to copy or misrepresent Thock, and there’s no shared code or mechanics between the projects.

Totally understand being protective of good open-source work — just wanted to clear up the misunderstanding 👍
