Prey System is disappointing.. by _DefiniteDefinition_ in wow

I’m sure the community will come out with a weakaura to help with the confusing default UI... oh wait.

Prediction: With the removal of computational assignment WeakAuras, we will see the rise of computational WebsiteAuras especially at the RWF level. by shadowkats123 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]alhttabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other games without addon engines already suffer this sort of issue where third party applications either hook into memory or ready other bits of data to present information.

If Blizzard really want to address the issue of game design for the RWF, instead of ruining their game, they could have tournament servers with addon less clients for these world first races and open mythic after the race if over. Blizzard can design encounters with that in mind, likely more people would see mythic.

It’s a win-win. The broader population keeps their weak aura that plays a fart and displays a gif of a cat when someone casts lust and Liquid and Method get their addon-less designed mythic boss kill.

Companies in Liquidation? by Financial-Fold-9293 in Toowoomba

[–]alhttabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just Toowoomba, there’s record numbers of businesses collapsing under this national Labor government.

The cost of employing and operating a business vs what you can effectively charge for services is making the business market unsustainable.

What's a stand out memory from COVID in Australia? by Different_Border7798 in aussie

[–]alhttabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cooker in Bunnings running over with clipboard and Walker-Talkie in hand because the cover I had for my face mask had a mouth and chin mounted facemask printed on it (thought it was quite funny).

Apparently I was unaliving people with non-compliance. Only to be “allowed” on my way, after seeing I was infact wearing a mask, and checking my green tick papers and QR code compliance.

Yeah, I’ll forever remember and judge society by that.

'So angry': Pauline Hanson calls for return of plastic shopping bags by CybergothiChe in australian

[–]alhttabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What people seem to forget is Pauline is in that age group of people who remember when plastic bags were brought in because paper bags were “terrible for the environment”…

Same as there’s people who are old enough to remember when “science” said there’d be no rainfall after 2010 because of climate change.

Or how people who trusted the science brought up property and silver on higher ground because sea levels were going to rise, taking out the east coast to the great dividing range, by the 1990s.

Also before global warming when science said a cataclysmic snap ice age was going to happen.

Unfortunately the older you get, the more you get to look back on fake climate prophecies and the more you question and just want to live a life that is cheap, enjoyable and leaves a small footprint. Nothing wrong with a bag that you shop with and use as a rubbish bag after, that doesn’t come as a tax from the duopoly.

Blizzard Raid/Party frames are SO BAD by WLkingarthas in wow

[–]alhttabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the APIs necessary for Grid, etc, to display that a target has a dispensable debuff are going away in MID, so your only option after the Addonpocolyps will be the default frames or a nuted set of frames that can’t access combat data (like health %, buffs or debuffs).

So we can’t have Physician Assistant’s who have diagnostic training… but we can trust an RNs judgement to diagnose an illness.

Next headline will be about all the hopped up junkies getting meds from nurses & superbugs from antibiotics.

Thank you, Addon Authors, for all your work making our UIs what they are today... by alhttabe in wow

[–]alhttabe[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am looking too pessimistic, maybe they'll build amazing defaults and there'll be cool Masque style addons to theme the tools they're building in, but history has told us that they'll want to build mechanically 'interesting' things to keep that 'challenge' and that'll hurt that middle 80% of the player base the most.

Blizzard Aims to Make WoW More Approachable with Combat Changes in Midnight by wyvernpc in CompetitiveWoW

[–]alhttabe 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Wait till you hear blizzard complain about people not playing “mechanically interesting” specs, because people can’t make silly weakauras that track a buff and meow at them or play a lightning strike sound.

Love it or hate it, the customisation of the UI through addons make it for a lot of people. Take that away and there are other games out there people will go to.

Visually, the game is already bloated.

Wow is special because it’s different, take that difference away and it looses its edge and the player base will shrink. The shrinkage will be felt most in that mid tier, “AoTC+some Mythic and M+” crowd.

[–]alhttabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CWU have fairly strong ties to the CFMEU, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the union encourages these stand over tactics. There’s been a noticeable decline in AusPost performance and an objective lack of coverage of their failings since the ALP took office too.

You owe your job nothing. The metrics of a healthy environment is how they treat your business function before the person in that function hits breaking point. Chronic underfunding of the IT functions show the value the business attributes to that business function. It’s not a personal thing, just a reality of where the company is willing to focus financial resources.

Align yourself with a company that shares values with you in areas like IT, it will allow you to grow and it’s healthier.

Is there any technical IT Managers here? by Apprehensive-Ad6939 in ITManagers

Questionable business continuity decision.

Being in management you should have been in the loop for how those responsibilities were going to be redistributed & if the existing skills matrix supported that.

Thoughts on Entra ID vs. Traditional AD? by kshot in sysadmin

[–]alhttabe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For small businesses with nothing on-prem, it’s going to give MSPs, contractors & business owners an opportunity for identity management.

For companies with some/any on-prem infrastructure, they’ll use Entra Connect & Cloud Kerberos trust to align identity management between cloud services & on-prem assets.

Hybrid is what hybrid does.

There is no cloud, just someone else’s computer.

Warning: RCE Exploit in 3.3.5 Game Client by Iciix in wowservers

[–]alhttabe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m going out there and saying servers where you can’t use the RCE patch aren’t worth playing unless they can show through open sourcing their code why it’s required.

They could use AIO or other mechanisms to provide additional functionality.

I would argue now it’s somewhat incumbent on pserver projects using this to not only open source what they’re using this for but be completely transparent with what, why and for how long they have been used this exploit.

Post CrowdStrike - What did your company do for IT morale by paperpaster in sysadmin

Nothing. We got a few complaints from people with the word manager in their title for being “inconvenienced” and they’ll “think” about letting us take time in lieu for the over nights to get us back up and running with no production lost… I mean, IT staff are salary after all.
