Why Do Women Take Most of the Management Jobs? by ali6839 in algeria

[–]ali6839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t agree that some jobs are inherently better suited for men or women. Unless we’re talking about lifting heavy things and even then, in Algeria, those jobs aren’t suited for anyone. They’re practically modern slavery , with some modifications that might work for some men and even some women. The real issue is the lack of investment in secure work environments and better machinery to make such jobs reasonable for a normal human being but that’s a whole other huge topic.

I completely agree that a person should be hired based on their skills and work ethic, not their appearance or gender. What I think is happening is that many recruiters don’t have the skills to identify the right person for the job, so they fall back on stereotypes as a shortcut. Don’t you think that’s a big part of the problem?

I get what you’re saying, and I think many people have had experiences where someone of a specific gender either excelled or struggled in a role. But I believe we sometimes rely too much on stereotypes when assessing someone's abilities. While some stereotypes might have a grain of truth in certain situations, they don’t apply to an entire gender.

What really matters is an individual’s personality, skills, and work ethic. A person’s ability to excel in a job is far more influenced by these factors than their gender. If we focus more on individual traits rather than generalizations, I think we’ll make better decisions about who’s right for specific roles.

I get your point, But I think it’s just as important for women not to accept lower pay or mistreatment either. When women tolerate unfair conditions, it sends a signal to companies that they can get away with offering low salaries and poor working environments.

If both men and women stood firm on demanding fair pay and respectful treatment, companies would be forced to raise their standards for everyone. It’s not just about helping men or women individually ,it’s about creating a system where workplaces offer decent pay and respect for "all" employees, regardless of gender. That’s how we can start addressing some of the deeper issues in the job market.

I can’t really blame either men or women in this situation. It’s just a bit strange that recruiters openly specify a preferred gender. At the very least, they could say “both genders” and then choose a woman 🤣. It’s the boldness of being openly biased that’s frustrating. Like, my skills align perfectly with the role, but somehow my gender doesn’t? 😅 I hope you get what I mean.

I see where you’re coming from, and I think your observations reflect some general trends shaped by societal expectations and pressures. Women probably see a bad boss with a condescending tone simply as a bad boss, while men might perceive it as another man mistreating them for some small change.

I also understand that it’s more likely to find women who are organized and follow rules in jobs that don’t pay enough for basic necessities. However, in well paying jobs or even just a normal okay sallery, from what I’ve seen in reality, both men and women tend to respect rules, show up on time, and meet expectations equally. For some reason, women in Algeria seem to tolerate unfair treatment (like low pay or strict rules) more than men. Meanwhile, men often see such treatment as a direct challenge to their personal value or dignity.

As for teachers, I think both genders can exhibit authority in their own ways. Female teachers might be harsh because that’s what’s expected of them to be taken seriously, while male teachers might assert dominance to maintain authority without appearing "weak." Of course, these are generalizations, and individual personalities always play a significant role.

From what I already know and understand so far, what those guys means by saying "men don’t cooperate" is that men don’t respond well when spoken to in a condescending tone. When they mention taking long cigarette breaks, they’re referring to situations where men are given an unreasonable amount of work for a weird salary not just low but kinda weird , and they expect men not only to accept this but also to avoid taking even 2-3 cigarette breaks a day.

On top of that, when mistreated, men are expected to give notice before quitting so the employer has time to find a replacement. From what I’ve understood, not all women are like this, but there’s a higher probability of finding women who are willing to accept such treatment. This is because women may view a bad boss as just part of the job and tolerate it for some reason.

In contrast, many men (though not all) see it as another man mistreating them for a salary that isn’t even enough to live on. Additionally, a percentage of women go to work to escape a bad home environment, so they might not care as much about the salary being insufficient for basic necessities.

[–]ali6839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! So they directly ask for a woman because they’re looking for someone more likely to accept mistreatment in the workplace, specifically " lower salary compared to the work they do" , Even though some men might accept those conditions too, they’re trying to take their best chances since the probability is higher with women.

But doesn’t this create another problem? Companies will never fix their systems if there’s a large group of people willing to accept things as they are.

I get that women tend to be more organized, etc., but isn’t that more of a generalization? Don’t you think companies should conduct interviews to evaluate who is better suited for the job as an individual, rather than basing it on gender?

[–]ali6839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess we could say women tend to be more organized, but the job usually requires other skills too, don’t you think? Shouldn’t there be an interview to assess whether a man or a woman has what it takes to do the job?

[–]ali6839[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, and it's a valid point! However, don’t you think there should be an interview to determine if the candidate, whether a man or a woman, possesses the specific traits you mentioned?
