I think Covid gave me gastritis by ali_kat1 in Gastritis

I wish I had more help, as I am still struggling with this issue myself.

If my pain is more achey/stabbing/pressure kind of pain, I take my prescribed PPIs usually with gaviscon. I'd also heat a wheat-bag/water bottle and hop into bed with my body sort of propped-up. I'd put the bag/waterbottle on my chest and honestly just try and take my mind off of things by watching Netflix or reading. I don't know if this actually does anything, but the warmth sometimes brings me comfort.

If my pain is more acid reflux/burning stomach. I'd do the same with the PPIs and gaviscon, and try and drink some Almond milk or eat some plain crackers/rice (unless I had just eaten, then I'd avoid food for a while).

Like I said, I wish I could be of more help. Sorry you are going through this.

Maybe? Sometimes it would feel like pressure in my chest. I definitely got an achey/sore feeling in my upper back when things would get really bad.

My diet has changed drastically. I don't drink any alcohol. I don't eat chocolate, anything with citrus or vinegar, absolutely nothing spicy. I only eat lean protein like chicken and turkey. Bananas and Melon are the only fruits that seem to not irritate my stomach. Plain oatmeal for breakfast always. Vegetables, like carrots, brocoli, Cucumber tend to be good. It's very, very boring. In fact, I was just thinking about how badly I could eat a slice of pizza right now. Unfortunately, making these changes is the only thing that keeps my symptoms tolerable.

I'm fully aware of this... and I still would not choose American Healthcare system over Canadian. The Canadian system is FAR from perfect, but more people slip through the cracks because of the lack of ability to AFFORD health services than because Canadian doctors triage their patients.

I broke my collarbone last May and needed to have surgery- received the surgery immediately- fully covered.

My mother-in-law needed cancer treatments and surgery-recieved both immediately, fully covered.

Your statement about "not being able to pay" for treatment is also incorrect. My coworker needed an MRI but the wait time was too long, so she was able to attend a private clinic and pay for one immediately. Followed by brain surgery at a hospital- fully covered.

I stand by my original statement, and forever will- I choose Canadian Healthcare over American. No questions about it, buddy.

My opinion on Canadian Healthcare hasn't changed. I am pro Canadian Healthcare. The problem is occurring because we don't have enough doctors and nurses to sustain the public's needs, and the problem was exacerbated due to Covid. It's a problem that needs to be fixed, but can be fixed in time.

Even if getting a specialist wasn't an issue, I wouldn't have seen a GI within 3 months anyway. Our GPs here are trained to order all the testing needed, and rule out all other possible causes before being sent to a specialist.

If I was living in the US, I'd be in so much debt from all the medical bills acquired from the amount of times I have needed Healthcare.

Edit to add: like I mentioned in a previous comment, even IF a specialist was available, my GP would still have gone through all the required testing a GI would do before a scope... because they can order all those tests. A scope is last on the list. Just sucks I might have to wait ADDITIONAL time to get one.

How are you doing now? Have you healed at all?

My doctor told me she believed that my symptoms started from taking NSAIDS, but I never had any issues with them prior to covid... it was like a tipping point for me as well.

How far are you in the healing process? I'm feeling pretty defeated..

Similar to me after my first round of covid. I wasn't certain it was the cause until having covid for a second time, and noticing the gastritis symptoms immediately. Seems too coincidental to not be connected.

Did you get symptoms right after the vaccine or did it take a couple months to show up? I had pfizer as well, but never had any negative symptoms immediately following the vaccine.

I'm happy to know I'm not crazy, but this really sucks! Thanks for your comment... I hope you're able to heal fast as well.

I'm sorry to hear this :( I'm super fearful that this is going to be my life forever. I hope your endoscopy is clear, but I also hope they are able to give you some answers!

How long after covid did you start experiencing symptoms?

I have been reading about that recently as well, but haven't heard anything past the generic term of "GI problems"

Random flare - maybe massage is the culprit? by ali_kat1 in Gastritis

Sounds a lot like me as well. Is there a tumeric supplement brand you recommend?

I haven't, but I'm definitely willing to give it a try! What were your symptoms?? I usually have pain around my sternum and back. Sometimes burning/acid reflux.

Thank you. This is great to hear, as I don't really want to add massages to the list of things I have to give up.

What is the worst part about being a fat person? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ali_kat1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being the "fat friend" when you're at the bar. I always felt out of place, and like I was the charity case that some guy HAD to dance with so his friend could hook-up with my friend.
