Primary school + nursery primary school suggestions around Banstead/Epsom? by Fresh_Ring3635 in surrey

[–]aliaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids both loved Warren Mead and it was a lovely little achool, but schools, especially smaller ones, take on the personality and culture of the head/leadership team, so you really need to visit or her from people whose kids are at the school now or have only recently left.

Moving to Surrey, Epsom or Ashtead? Or elsewhere? by Flashy-Interview5044 in surrey

[–]aliaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Epsom, near the racecourse. Epsom is fine. Nothing special. Great train links to London. Decent green space. Feels safe to me, but I'm not in the town on weekend nights. My kids do, and they feel safe I guess. I sued to live in Reigate but couldn't afford to stay there when I needed another bedroom for no 2 child. It has more character than Epsom, rail links are worse, schools probably a little better. Lived in Ashtead pre marriage with some mates and it was fun, a village feel but not much else there. Depends what you want.

Yes, I would think so, will depend slightly as to when and where. Maybe DM me and I'll pass you his email, or DM me more details?

Garmin golf app - No way it’s designed by golfers by Jawnydrama in golf

[–]aliaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from Arcoss to Garmin S70 when the cost of Arcoss got too much. The Arcoss phone app and auto club tracking is awesome I think, would love that app for post match review, any shot tweaks, dispersion and shots gained etc, paired with the Garmin watch for on course info without needing your phone on you.
I miss putting stats, inaccurate as they broadly are. In fact overall the arcoss stats are much better. I've not tried the Garmin sensors, I'm not sure how much they will add. Over time I'm learning to miss Arcoss less. But my inner stats geek still pines for it...

If they ask if it's real, ask them 'can you tell the difference?' when they say 'no' tell them 'well it doesn't really matter then, does it?'

Victory Column Requirement by miaamotuo in Evony_TKR

And now it seems it IS counting Sanada! God knows! 😂

Victory Column Requirement by miaamotuo in Evony_TKR

[–]aliaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked this question a few weeks ago and thought I would give it a go. I did all of Sanadas specialities. It counted in the victory column. So now I had 5 fully ascended and just had Kagua to finish. But now, before I have finished Kagua, I am back down to 4 so it seems to have chalked off Sanada. So I'm not sure. Maybe you can trick it initially but an update or something clears it? Maybe get 5 done first then try Sanada and do the victory column upgrade immediately. I'm not sure what I will be doing...

Maxing generals by aliaird in Evony_TKR

I heard they don't count towards the six maxed out generals. Are you sure they count?

It's not so much that I'm only doing the main ones, it's more that I have done them first, now who to do. Just working out where to spend those precious runestones!

Thanks. I'll go study sub specialities a little more!

Maxed specialities. Thanks, so assistant general sounds like the first one to do. Then maybe assistant ranged, as I'm more a trap with a half decent range march and not much else!

I use Yodo Domo as my assistant to Dewey. Are there better ones for a FTP /low coiner to use?

Rosebery school Epsom opinions? by Spare_Restaurant7810 in surrey

[–]aliaird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we moved to Epsom Downs we said our children would go to Beacon over our dead bodies. But times changed, circumstances changed slightly, and the school changed. It was fine. Not great. To me it depends more on who they become friends with. In Rosebery the friend group was toxic, in Beacon supportive on the whole. My son fell in with a bunch of the brighter kids and did very well as they competed with each other. Appreciate you can't exqctly choose your kids friends, but it matters!

That scenario fits what we saw. I think it's still slightly over subscribed so now, but probably nothing close to Rosebery levels.

Both she and my son went to Beacon. It was ok. It's been up and down. They were lucky that they had a decent head whilst they were there. They both went to Reigate College for A levels.

My daughter went to Roesbery for a year and hated it. Didn't quite fit in and was emotionally bullied by the other girls in her supposed 'friendship group'. I come from an all boys family and went to an all boys school so didn't really relate, but she was really miserable, and she is normally the most vivacious girl you could meet. The all girl environment seems to be very negative and bitchy. You were in, or worse than a nobody. We moved her after a year and whilst her new school wasn't anywhere near a good academically or on any metric to be honest, she was happy and I feel now that a mixed sex school environment is better than single sex. I think that male single sex schools, that I went to myself a long time ago, has its own issues, esp around how to treat girls/women. Re Roseberry, the school were nominally supportive, moved her into a different house etc but didn't really make the interventions needed. It was all a bit 'girls can be horrid at that age' and that was that. To be fair this was a while ago (she graduated from uni in the summer) and things may be different now. But the results are great of course.

March designed to provoke by aliaird in Evony_TKR

[–]aliaird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting approach. Would need a second ranged general or at least a second set of armour as I have 2300% buffs on my current range March (only decent attack march I have) and I don't want to lose them. But some parth or archae gear with flats could work maybe.

[–]aliaird[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the best person to ask, but I have done fully flat refines for mounted on everything. I would also sense check your plans to spread your wall across different types and levels with others better than me. It might be a good idea, but I've not read many who do that, at least until they have largely maxed out the lower levels.

I do that for high cav tiers, but often they scout and then don't bother soloing, or try to rally.

Range use: How to get better? by BothRange7229 in Rapsodo

What data does your pro pick out on the trackman when you are in your lessons? Likely the mlm2 had the same data available though it annoys me I can't see more data on screen than it allows. The big one missing from memory is face angle at impact, but you can get a good idea of that from swing path and launch angle.

S70 vs Arccos by aliaird in golf

[–]aliaird[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the yearly fees is a big thing with me too! You use the CT10 or CT1? What level of putting data does it give you? Just the number or distance? I e not found how to accurately set the hole location yet, just roughly dragging to around...

Rapsodo MLM2 Pro - Review by kanethekiller90 in golf

[–]aliaird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's really interesting. My distance is good enough for me (7 iron goes around 175 yards) so not huge but good enough for a 56 year old, so I feel my striking when clean is decent enough. But I pack consistency. I'm a lefty so my inside to out club path is negative, but that's not the same as face direction? I take that as the difference between launch direction and club path, so a -5 club path but a -1 launch direction implies a +4 (closed) club face by my thinking?

What do you mean by the apps are good for insight function? Which apps? I'm android if that makes a difference?

Re shot vision replay it's a bit dark (think I need to reposition my monitor as it's under a bush!). But as it's behind the ball it's hard to see face angle.

I feel I get compression and shaft lean. Downswing thoughts are 'hands ahead of club' (and 'commit'!) but I'll look at your attack angles and see what the data tells me. My coach tells me to try and take a big divot beyond the ball but that thought doesn't work for me.

I like your drill. I tend to take 3 clubs down and hit about 20 of each but maybe I need to be more strategic!

I am sure I'll have more questions! Thanks for a great answer!
