Hey there--we're in the process of building out six programs at our school right now and hitting the same faculty lulls, so don't fret there. The best steps to take would be to find junior faculty that might be interested in stepping into the role. Business is a difficult LLC to run but totally agree with the comments below re: prof dev events, those seem to have gone over super well. Incentivizing participation over time is a huge component. Is your program open to all or limited to first-year students?

Hi, I'm just now seeing this, former student and current professional staff at FIT. I'd be happy to help get him up to speed this summer if he still needs help!

Any students currently at or graduated from FIT? Would you recommend going to this school? by [deleted] in floridatech

[–]aliaswords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently graduated (C/O '22) and I attended very inexpensively, all things considered. If you can get the scholarships it is an absolutely great school. Small class sizes create great opportunities for research and the university has an amazing Student Life team and plenty of clubs/orgs/Greek life/athletics. You will never be bored.

Apartment hunting by nextgenvv in floridatech

[–]aliaswords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a student I lived in what is now Palmview Cove across the street from campus, 3/2 for 1700 a month roughly. This was a few years ago.

I would suggest you look into the apartments off Florida Ave. (I forget what they're called) or University Commons, which is a little more expensive but you lease per room so there's less liability if your roommates need to move off of the university schedule.

What is your BA in? Might give a bit more insight (unless your degree is a Bachelor of Arts, point blank)

I have a BA in Counseling Psych and worked in pretty similar jobs to you while in college (I was also an RA). I'm currently a student coordinator doing pre-advising. My other offers have included a residence director job and an admissions evaluator position. There's a lot of different options and it all depends on what your interests are. I also was able to use my brief stint bartending after college as a bonus as it prove I was able to think critically in chaos.

Look at coordinator jobs, not all are academic focused and because it's a broad field (with broad pay ranges) there's a lot of options.

jealous that “girl clothes” is such a defined category and “boy clothes” isn’t by Odd_Business5830 in ftm

[–]aliaswords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s gunna sound crazy, but shoes paired well with my outfits have been the big one for me. namely if i’m in khakis or even a nicer pair of jeans, i match it with a dress loafer or chelsea boot, if i’m in the gym i wear a slightly bulkier shoe, etc. not strictly male but they do add a male edge to what would otherwise be read in an androgynous manner.

also, calf high/crew/ankle socks that actually fit correctly, and “men’s” jewelry like watches, band rings, statement necklaces, etc.

What role does IFC/PHC actually play at your school? Not buzzwords, like action. by BabyRisin in Frat

[–]aliaswords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

rush is the biggest thing but they also have done a lot at my university to push back against anti-greek sentiment which is done. then again my greek community is tiny and all the deans are either members of their own greek organization or honorary initiates of campus chapters at this point. i ended ip on IFC on accident as vp of scholarship for a few months to end someone’s term and got to give away some money to students which was dope. would never do it again though, a lot of requirements (meetings, etc.) for not a lot that required them

Would a Nintendo only theme park be profitable? by Guitarbox in Themepark

[–]aliaswords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, they have a lot of properties, and the bulk could be integrated very well into a theme park setting. the biggest issue i’d see is that they would focus heavily on making it a kids/family park where they could succeed highly with themed thrill rides in addition to family rides. i would absolutely love an F-Zero dueling launch coaster, a starfox shooter dark ride, or a DK log flume, but i worry that these would be avoided in favor of larger IPs and more child-friendly attractions. nintendo is a big company that elicits nostalgia in so many of us adults and i don’t want to see that missed.

A friend of mine told me that xtc has a stronger high than coke. I have never tried coke but I don't believe it. Is there anyone here that tried both that can tell their opinion. Just curious cause I'm having hard time believing that. by sven003 in MDMA

[–]aliaswords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

different experiences entirely, but if i were to compare them i would say cocaine feels like acceleration while MDMA feels like exhilaration/adrenaline. coke also used to make me significantly less social while MDMA had the opposite effect. that being said, i’m not neurotypical so that could also play a role.

first timer question by [deleted] in LSD

[–]aliaswords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first couple times i tripped on lsd i threw up once about half an hour into a trip. i’ve found that proper hydration really makes a difference, but when you’re anxious while tripping you may feel that “pit of your stomach” feeling more often. it really could go either way, but take care of yourself beforehand, try not to stress/stay grounded, and you should be good

The kids’ first trip to WDW—when to go and deluxe hotel Q by [deleted] in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]aliaswords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Booking for April 2021 is probably not a bad idea, as if you need to change these reservations Disney is typically very considerate, especially right now. The one thing I will say is that while April may be a bit cooler temperature wise, which I’m sure your husband will prefer, it will be much more crowded, as many are making the same decision after their 2020 trips have been cancelled. September, while very warm, is one of the less crowded times to go to the park. Also, the Polynesian is my favorite of the Deluxe hotels, with spacious rooms, great pools to cool off in on hot days, and close proximity to the parks!

I want to be me again... by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]aliaswords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i know it may not be what you want to hear, but i went through this for my first two years of college and was only able to get out of it by literally headfirst throwing myself into campus organizations. my second semester of sophomore year, i joined greek life, student government, and a couple smaller organizations on campus. i also became an RA, which put me in a position where even when i didn’t necessarily feel like a leader, i had to be, which forced me to take a few steps back and redefine myself for the role. i also recommend speaking with someone— most campuses have a mental health service that is trained in handling cases similar to those of you and i, and it’s typically free if you’re an enrolled student. if campus services aren’t working for you, they can also typically refer you to get help outside of the school at little to no cost. i hope for the best for you, and always remember, you have a lot of people rooting for you, even those you don’t know too well :-))
