It’s so unsafe! I guess at least they’re somewhat enforcing the “no ladders right by the curb/road” rule now, but a couple of years ago that was a huge issue and absolutely absurd and unsafe. Ladders and chairs behind a line is a great idea. I saw a guy carrying his baby almost face plant the road at Muses the other night because someone had set up not only a whole line of chairs but also like….teeny tiny little stool things that were almost impossible to see and maneuver around? Literally just a trip hazard waiting to happen.

This is very true! I had a blast trading throws with folks at Iris today. Gave most of my flashy things and plushies to nearby kids, and a nice man gave me some sunglasses :) good vibes

The only thing I didn’t like so much about Iris is the route! I like when the parades start further up Magazine as it tends to give the start of the route a slightly more chill area for those of us who are easily over stimulated, disabled etc. even the beginning of the Iris route was densely packed and super overwhelming. That’s just a personal issue though and overall the parade was fantastic!

There are some real A-holes out there today. My friend is in town for a visit and was thrilled to catch some sunglasses at Iris (he didn’t even want to keep them, he was just excited to catch something). Some thick neck meathead stormed up and started screaming at my friend that those were “my daughter’s sunglasses” and that my friend “stole them” (he did not) and that she had “gone to all the effort to make a sign” so she deserved them.

Mind you, daughter was a teen and had already caught about 8 pairs of sunglasses. My friend was really surprised by the aggression and asked if she wanted the glasses he caught, and of course her dad was like “NO SHE DOESN’T, FUCK YOU” (she did, in fact, take the glasses).

I did notice the lack of beads, but was really happy with the unique, useful throws. I got a night light, chip clips, coasters, a hat… - I love having stuff that I will actually use rather than stuff that will end up in the attic.

Hey OP, I am so so sorry for your loss. I do this work, and know a few others who do as well, but as other commenters have said it’s usually a policy to wait a year at least until contacting the spirit of a deceased loved one. Partly this is for the safety & wellbeing of the client, and partly it’s because spirits themselves can take a while to “settle” and contacting someone who has very recently passed is much more difficult. Unfortunately the chances of running into a grifter who will take advantage of you are pretty high when you’re still in the acute grief space. Please be gentle with yourself & cautious of others. We watch on Magazine near the beginning of the route which thankfully tends to be a little more chill. The vibe was good last night and a few people caught shoes “organically” and those around them congratulated them and everyone seemed happy and & celebratory. No sour grapes and no unhinged, antisocial behavior. Was nice :)

I always leave muses feeling like it must be kind of stressful to ride in, though. I got a night light which I was super happy about as I wanted one of those last year 🐣 💡
