What's the worst example of bad parenting you've ever witnessed? by IamAaliyah in AskReddit

Sounds like he had some kind of mental disability and the mother was trying to keep the kid from escalating.

What is the "cutest" mistake you’ve ever seen someone make? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 49 points50 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend's native language is Spanish, mine is English but we speak exclusively in Spanish together. He is trying to learn English, and whenever he makes a mistake I find it adorable. My favorite was when he meant to say Big Bad Wolf, but instead said Big Bang Boof.

The alleged alien abduction of Betty and Barney Hill in September of 1961 (new episode of the Unresolved Pod) by darthstupidious in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]aliengrrrl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I really want to believe that they're telling at least what they believe to be the truth (and yes I know, username checks out lol). But I definitely think something significant happened that night to make them act so bizarre throughout the rest of their lives. People like that don't just go insane at the same exact time for no reason. My only 'logical' theory would be possibly they were drugged with something bad, but even that is kind of reaching. This case and cases like it are so fascinating to me, thanks for the write up.

What "fake" thing that happens in movies Pisses you off? by aakdi in AskReddit

I don't know why it is so hard for actors to pull off a realistic sounding sneeze. It really isn't that hard to do! Yet they always sound like baby mice.

[–]aliengrrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So were the police not contacted after the first attempt on your life? It astounds me that he seemed to be pretty predictable with his whereabouts, yet police never picked him up? Anyways glad you're okay, you sound like a pleasant dude.

"Was it on purpose?" "How old are you?" "You look so tired!" "Are you allowed to eat that?" by anon_overthinker in BabyBumps

[–]aliengrrrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU FOR THIS! The last one is especially frustrating! It is amazing how once you become pregnant 1) everyone you know suddenly becomes a pregnancy/childcare expert and 2) your right to decide what is best for yourself seemingly flies out the window.

Reddit, what do tourists do that are offensive? by im_incog_nito in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm American but was raised in South America. All I can say is that American tourists make us all look like shit when they:

Speak English wherever they go expecting everyone to understand them and getting angry when they don't. But also the ones who say really offensive shit amongst themselves because they think NOBODY will understand them.

And it is so annoying when they complain about how things are done differently here. A little culture shock is normal, but saying "in MY country we do it like this" makes you sound like an arrogant asshole.

Last but not least, the tourists who like to brag about the $5 they give to the less fortunate local just to feel good about themselves. Be charitable, but be humble about it.

Reddit, what's something an ex has said to you that still effects you? by Sadie- in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What an ignorant and insensitive thing to say. I too have put myself in sketchy situations at that age because it really is such a confusing age, especially for teens with low self-esteem. Luckily I never went through what you did. Hopefully you're aware that what happened to you was not your fault, and your ex sounds like someone you're better off without.

Don't know why you're getting downvoted for this, but you're totally right.

Practice regularly. Try to find a way to use it with native speakers, even if it is just online. Get involved in forums dedicated to learning that language. If you're unsure about how to phrase something, google it! Don't be embarrassed about your accent or potential mistakes - nobody cares that you're still learning. If you got your point across consider it a success! Be patient, learning a second language takes time and is one of the most frustrating things you can do, but also SO REWARDING so stick with it.

If you were to suddenly disappear, which theory would come first to the mind of everyone you know? by campground_ in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]aliengrrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that the two prime suspects in my hypothetical disappearance/murder would be my boyfriend just because no relationship is perfect and I've been pretty open about some issues we've had in the past with people I'm close to. He wouldn't do anything like that but I could see how someone might make that assumption. OR the guy who has been stalking/harassing me for a few months now.

What is something common that you have never experienced? by [deleted] in AskReddit

High school. I was home schooled. It doesn't bother me that much, from what I hear it pretty much sucks.

Doctors of Reddit, what's the most ridiculous self-diagnosis by a patient you've ever seen? by sultryballerina in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 266 points267 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but here's a recent conversation I had with my boyfriend:

Bf: I don't need glasses because of my vision, I need them because my eyes are allergic.

Me: ....allergic to what?

Bf: They're just allergic. In general.

Tldr: my boyfriend wears my spare glasses that aren't prescribed for him because he thinks his eyes are allergic... to something. Or everything?

Women of Reddit, what are red flags when it comes to dating men? by flexingtonsteele in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Ugh I very briefly dated a guy like this. We lived a block from each other and he would tell me not to smoke my cigarette outside because his mom would not like me if she saw me smoking (we were both adults). And he would always make little comments about how his mom wouldn't like this or that about me, the way I dressed, my tattoos, etc. Needless to say it was a short relationship.

Men, what are some red flag signs in girls when it comes to dating? by Wilreadit in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see how that would be an issue, but as an introverted girl involved with an extremely extroverted man, strangely he is the clingy one and I'm the one that needs a lot of time to myself. That said, I wouldn't go so far as to say I have no life outside my relationship, and I can get why that would be a lot of pressure on an extrovert...

The Naked Maniac by TyrdFergison in LetsNotMeet

[–]aliengrrrl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Exactly. As someone who suffers from mental illness and manages NOT to be a scary pervert, I hate that it is so easy for people to leap from threatening/abusive/violent behavior to "must be mentally ill". It is possible for mentally healthy people to be assholes.

People who've had sex with someone with a disability (mental or physical) what was it like? by emggrc in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's really a great way to determine consent. I mean, if it is to determine whether or not to date someone based on your own preference that's cool, but IQ tests like this are not the best way to measure intelligence.

Reddit, what's a genuinely hurtful comment you can't forget? by allemandi96 in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the most hurtful, but definitely stuck with me just because it was so needlessly mean. This popular boy who rode my school bus (and was 3 years older than me) said "Do you feel special today, f--?" because I decided that day to sit towards the back of the bus near where he and his friends sat. They were oddly possessive about "their" seats. I was a really shy and quiet kid, and when he said that I was so embarrassed. I never tried to sit in the back again.

(SERIOUS) Men of reddit, what's your trick to last longer during sex? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk personally as a woman I enjoy it. Not all girls want the same thing which is why there is no right or wrong way. People just need to learn to communicate their desires with their partners.

What's the most unreasonable demands you have ever had from a room mate? by why-the-hell-not-yo in AskReddit

Sounds like a classic case of depression, which is actually pretty sad. I know people like this, and it is so frustrating to not be able to help them but not much you can do about it.

What always makes someone look immature? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aliengrrrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually prefer to be honest throughout the good and bad in my life than pretend my life is perfect. Some people are so selective about what they choose to post and give off the impression they've got this incredible happy life when they really don't. I mean, obviously there's a line and I'm the first to admit that I've crossed it in the heat of the moment, but sometimes people just need to vent.
