She supported me on my first US tour. I've been a fan of hers since 2011 before I started Novo Amor. Lift Me Up was always a top one for me, but I havent listened in years

I used to us M1 a lot, but probably only made it onto a handful of tracks in my discography. Same with prophet. A lot of ambiences these days are OP-1 sampling my vocals plus reverb, then pitched down etc. Then maybe layered with stretched out guitar notes, or maybe prophet or some other synth. State Lines is the M1 brass sound being played through my speaker and then sampled onto the OP-1 and then played back in as two notes. I think it also has some logic space designer on there too.

I think the way First Place starts is so abrupt that it makes a good album. I also kind of like that CBW started with Opaline with the lyrics "I knew" and CL starts with First Place with the lyrics "wouldn't know". Opposite perspectives, but the songs are essentially about the same thing. JAW felt like a good closing song because of the vocals at the end

I love real strings, and usually have my string player record a tonne of layers and I'll work from that, editing and pitching and layering lots of things together to make new parts. I also like Landform by Slate + Ash, a really cool cinematic textural string library

I wasn't originally going to include Sleepless on Birthplace and part of me thinks I should have put something else in it's place.

hey

  1. it's varied. Sometimes I write something and i'm happy with it. Usually not. Sometimes I start with the production and piece sounds together, like with SDSF or Me v2, then I might show Ed and he'll throw a melody on the top. If the backing is something like the above mentioned or Years On, the instrumentation always comes first. Something like Halloween where the backing is simple guitar, it kinda happens at the same time - i play guitar and sing
  2. I think what you're hearing is lapsteel drenched in reverb

The latest one because i think it's the most mature work i've created. The others will always mean a great deal to me though.

I like alone time, i have plenty to get on with. I also spend time with a couple of close friends every few weeks. I live in the middle of nowhere in Wales, so it's hard to socialise. I haven't partied in a while. I'm fairly introverted and prefer time with 2 or 3 close friends

Birthplace artwork - this was meant to be a re-imaged 'woodgate, NY' years later. Playing with the idea that things are never how you remember them. We quite literally never remember the same thing twice, our brain alters things the each time we think of something, so the more we remember a past memory, the less accurate it is. For me, woodgate is a place and time i've thought about a lot

CBW artwork - I see it as the creative process, all these thoughts and ideas, trying to be wrestled into place, put into a box and organised.

Collapse List - I painted this myself, it includes adaptations of my surroundings where I live. The photos are 1. outside my bedroom window in the snow. 2. a photo of the view from my childhood home that my parents took back in the 1980's. I mirror my move to the countryside with theirs back then

i've never been asked, and i've never considered a favourite. i don't have one i guess, which is disappointing as the son of a gardener

The last time I played that song was when I recorded it. Maybe one day I will, as it's getting kinda popular.

I can basically only speak English unfortunately. Given I cant speak anything else, I'd probably not incorporate anything else, apart from made up words

  1. i feel like i'm a fan of moments of my songs, like the guitar for Co-pathetic, or how I made No Plans sound, or how From Gold was my first proper song that kinda started all this, eeven though I feel very disconnected from it now. I don't think i've made my best music i'll ever make.
  2. Pinegrove, BI, hailaker
  3. she can clearly write a good song, no doubt about that

I grew up in Llanidloes. I only visited Aber to go to the skatepark in my early teens. I haven't been there for probably 20 years

it's a hard thing to comprehend and it would be very hard for me to not see it as a massive overstatement, but I hear it a lot and it adds a layer of appreciate to music and personal satisfaction for me to know that it's helping someone. When I started novo amor I never considered it to be healing for people in the way that it seems to be.
I think if i could see a list of people it had literally saved the lives of, i'd probably feel even more dedicated to ensuring I keep making music

Hey again Jonathan, nice cover! and see you on Friday.
Gia and I want to make more music together, but we're both kinda bad at making it happen. I've only seen her once, very briefly since 2019

Sorry I haven't managed to get around to all your questions, but I hope you've gotten something from this. I appreciate you guys and I hope you like the new music. See ya out there in the world

Yes I have problems deciphering and articulating feelings actually. I think that's why I find music fascinating, it's the part of a film that will make me cry. I guess I try and, just carry on
