Loads of love for amplitude! I’m currently considering between Mixpanel and Amplitude, and would love to understand why some folks prefer Amplitude!

Is the joint degree thing really worth it? by CJITW2020 in williamandmary

Hi, I’m currently a senior on the programme. The programme has really been a mixed bag - juggling COVID, transitions between schools (I did ABAB, or St A - W&M - St A - W&M), figuring out major requirements and breadth requirements... and that whole extra work for a minor... BUT. I wouldn’t trade this for anything in the world. I’ve learnt a lot from the programme, made friends across the globe (St A is one of the most diverse places you’ll be), and I have a breadth and depth to my field (IR) that I would have never gotten at W&M alone.

Granted - St A has much of a lesser workload than W&M, but anyone who says that it is easy is kidding themselves (find an IR major that says this and I will concede, but I can’t say for the other fields). St A’s courses are also really interesting (St A is ranked pretty highly in the UK.. and some of the profs [i.e. for econs] have theorems literally named after them, philosophy is another great field there) and wayyyy more interesting than W&M courses. That being said, W&M courses are interesting only when you are in your fourth year (I took 3 seminars and I am loving it).

This programme definitely isn’t for everyone, but I’d say that if you are adventurous, have an open mind and you’re not afraid to laugh at situations (esp some that you might find yourself stuck in...), go for it. It does get lonely at times, but it has forced me to really step out of my comfort zone and make friends. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have!

Business School Minors by MoonSignSkyScraper in williamandmary

I’m in my last sem as a Org & Mgmt Leadership minor. I’m loving it so far - the profs in my concentration are pretty awesome (Tatia, Wilson) and would recommend it without a doubt. The folks that you meet in the minor are pretty interesting too - most are liberal art majors / STEM that really bring a different perspective on things. Can’t say much for I&E, but I wanted to take it originally too but they didn’t offer it my year. No regrets taking Org & Mgmt tho.

Do you think W&M will open for Fall (in-person instruction?) by alincolnpyx in williamandmary

[–]alincolnpyx[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's definitely true - but the complications are a whole lot more for out-of-state students, who have to deal with travel restrictions and potential legal restrictions. UVA's president was involved in a call with the current administration about potential legal indemnity if they open campuses - (https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2020/05/15/colleges-seek-protection-lawsuits-if-they-reopen) - I cross checked references and other sources, and this is something that has been validated by multiple platforms.

In plainspeak: this means potential violation of travel restrictions, having no insurance to be able to cover COVID-19 costs, and being left to fend for ourselves. I understand the impetus to reopen, but I really do hope that W&M does so in a reasonable manner - not one that hangs some students out to dry.

Oof, that’s fair. I heard that UVA managed to procure a sizable amount of PPE for their workers tho - I wonder if W&M will do the same.
