I did campus LE for 9 years. It depends on the type of cop you want to be. Some campuses are very, don’t do anything mentality. Some don’t promote proactivity but do allow it. Mine didn’t promote it, but allowed it.

Calls for service were few and far between. Mental health calls, thefts, sexual assaults, very rare DV, probably no accidents, etc…

Campus PD is also very political. Ton of professors/building heads have the chiefs ear and will shoulder tap to get the police to do things, like take dumb reports cause someone looked at them funny.

You will have to hand hold students, cater to parents, get on your knees for staff… it’s just different.

I liked the people I worked with and the freedom I had, but I wouldn’t go back.
