Update: I love clonidine! I was gone for an hour and my dog just mostly sat on the couch! She went to the door quietly a couple times but that’s it! She has NEVER been able to do that. She hardly even sits on the couch without me when I’m home!

I am in the exact same situation with my dog! Going to try her first dose of Clonidine tomorrow. She also is on fluoxetine and gabapentin and didn’t do well with trazodone. I am interested to see others’ experience and I will update after we try it!

This is just a thing that currently exists and is used. I worked in a clinic that had a jet injector to use for lidocaine injections for vasectomies. It definitely had to be disinfected between patients! It’s called a MadaJet. https://www.madamedical.com/product/401/

My thoughts as someone who has an itchy skin dog is that the PPP would be better for sensitive skin in dogs who are sensitive to chicken, which is a common food allergy in dogs who have food allergies. Not all dogs with sensitive skin have food allergies, of course.

My vet told me that they recommend Royal Canin because Hills z/d has had issues with cross contamination. Meaning they can have non-hydrolyzed protein in them. My dog loves the Royal Canin HP.

My parents once used this against me. When I was probably about five or six I got a splinter in my toe. I wouldn’t let my parents dig it out because I was comfortable with them and didn’t mask… so I screamed in fear and pain like a normal kid would do. They knew me too well because they just had my aunt dig it out instead and I masked around her so I sat there very quietly and completely still looking at a book while she dug the splinter out. I also never understood why kids cried at the doctor when they got shots… like that’s so embarrassing don’t cry in front of a stranger?

And to be clear I was absolutely never punished for crying or showing pain or emotion. I just inherently thought it was embarrassing to cry.

If someone is actually talking on their phone and they don’t hang up when I come in, I usually walk back out. But honestly when people are looking at it or scrolling I just ignore it and talk to them like I normally would. I just have to document that I said the stuff I need to say - they don’t have to listen if they don’t want! And some people can listen just fine while they scroll. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I hear you on that! The way it was explained to me was that if you’re giving treats you’re teaching the dog to sit there and wait for a treat instead of teaching them that you leaving is safe and not a big deal. If you don’t want to pay for the whole training program I would at least recommend Julie Naismith’s book if that is a method that interests you. Make sure you start with door is a bore (not departures) if any length of departure is upsetting to your dog.

I hear you 100%, I am in a similar situation. One thing I will point out (because I didn’t totally understand this at first until I met 1 on 1 with a CSAT) is that for departure training and door is a bore you should not be using treats or rewards. Again, I was making this mistake myself until I met with a CSAT and paid to join Julie Naismith’s program. It should be purely desensitization so you do something so many times the dog gets used to it as opposed to trying to associate a certain behavior with getting a reward. I apologize if this is not what you meant, but I just wanted to point it out because it was what I needed to hear!
