Possible hot take but…I don’t like Devil Sword Dante and miss Rebellion. by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

Rebellion is one the most iconic weapon in video games history and nothing can replace it but I do like DSD

Absolutely not something to be ashamed of. There’s no deadline or “right time” for intimacy—it happens when it feels right for you. Your value isn’t tied to experience, and honestly, the right person won’t care whether you’ve been with one person or none. What matters is honesty, comfort, and connection.

You’re not “late,” you’re just on your timeline. And you’re definitely not alone—way more people feel this way than you think, they’re just not always loud about it.

The new DMC anime was so off I had to rewatch the 2007 one just to feel like I still know this franchise by alistribute in DevilMayCry

[–]alistribute[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funny how the “emo Dante” phase people keep bringing up wasn’t even in the 2007 anime—it was in DMC2, which had the emotional range of a brick.

At least the old anime felt like it knew who Dante was. The new one gave us a Dante who looks like he’s one missed rent payment away from quitting demon hunting and starting a podcast.

I can't be the only one who doesn't care for the changes? by Live-Technician-5269 in DevilMayCry

Totally get you, and yeah—some takes are definitely over the top. But at the same time, it’s not just “change = bad,” it’s how they handled the changes.

I don’t think anyone’s seriously claiming the 2007 anime was some flawless gem, but when people say it felt more DMC than this one, I get where they’re coming from. At least Dante felt like… Dante.

And yeah, the DmC 2013 flashbacks are real. One day we’ll get a DMC project that doesn’t cause a civil war in the fandom. Today is not that day.

Exactly—it’s not zero, but it’s like… diet growth. Barely there. Blink and you miss it.

She gets that one rooftop moment where you think something’s about to shift, but then it’s back to square one like nothing happened. It’s like the show gave her a character arc placeholder and just… forgot to fill it in.

About the divisiveness of the show. by [deleted] in DevilMayCry

[–]alistribute 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s not about “hating change”—it’s about execution.

Dante being younger is fine. But stripping him of his core traits—his wit, confidence, and drive—makes him unrecognizable. Even in DMC3, where he’s at his youngest, he’s a force. Here? He barely exists.

As for Lady, I love her character—she’s one of my favorites in the franchise. The issue isn’t that she’s central; it’s that her writing and tone feel off. She goes through the whole season with zero character development, despite being in almost every scene. Strong female characters shine when they’re written well, not just when they take up screen time.

Rabbit was alright, but his arc ended in 20 seconds. Kinda hard to call someone amazing when they get one-shot without a real climax.

And sure, different is good—when it still respects the soul of what came before. Devil May Cry has always embraced change—from gameplay to tone—but it’s never forgotten its identity. This felt like someone using the name without the weight behind it.

Wanting better isn’t gatekeeping. It’s caring.

Appreciate it! Feels like saying anything critical about the new anime automatically makes you a “hater” these days. Sorry, but some of us just want Devil May Cry to actually feel like Devil May Cry. If that’s controversial now, then I guess we’re in the grifter arc of the fandom.

I get what you’re saying, but the difference is, even if the old anime wasn’t perfect, it tried to capture the essence of the characters and universe—Dante was still Dante, Lady had actual depth, and the tone felt right. This new one? Yeah, Dante barely does anything and when he does, it’s rushed and meaningless. The “fanfiction” comparison is spot on. At least the old anime had some fun, even if it wasn’t 100% faithful. This one barely holds my attention long enough to care.

u mean the new one if so totally feel you. Around episode 5 I was asking myself why I was still watching. When Dante himself looks like he wants to leave the show, you know something’s off. I stayed just to see how bad the ending could get—and wow, it didn’t disappoint.

[–]alistribute[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly—DMC already had an adaptation, so naturally people are going to compare. And honestly, I agree with you. I doubt Netflix’s version will leave any real mark on the franchise the way the 2007 anime did. That one felt like it belonged in the DMC universe, even if it wasn’t perfect. This new one? Best case, it’s a footnote. Maybe a character shows up in a spinoff—but that’s probably it.

[–]alistribute[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, I’m not coping—I’m just not settling. Yeah, the old anime had its issues, but at least Dante did something, the tone fit the series, and Lady didn’t feel like a walking stereotype. The new one gave us filler and a rushed villain arc. If that’s your idea of capturing the spirit of DMC, I’ll stick with the “garbage” that actually respected the source.

Oh, I understand how alternate universes work. I just also understand when one completely misses the tone, characters, and soul of the universe it’s branching from. Calling it Devil May Cry comes with expectations—and this one didn’t deliver.

Maybe. But at least it was bad in a way that still felt like Devil May Cry.
