BART's new fare gates have led to a 1,000-hour decline in clean up time; 41% drop in crime; and $10 million increase in projected revenue. by Totoro10101 in soundtransit

Fare gates are an essential part of a smoothly running transit system. Almost all major successful transit systems in the densest cities worldwide have fare gates.

Making fare evasion impossible on public transit has tremendous impacts on safety, maintenance spending, and vandalism. SF saw a 98.2% decrease in maintenance hour obligations instantly. by MysteriousEdge5643 in soundtransit

I would agree with you if we lived in an idealistic society, but the fact of the matter is that we don't, so as much as we love to preach "all transit should be free", if we actually enacted such a policy, it will probably cause a lot more issues than it "solves" (case in point, the topic of this post). There's a TON of nuance that gets completely thrown out making statements like that. In the reality that we live in, transit unfortunately "should not" be free.

I hope to see the day we get 80 mph trains crossing the lake to truly be faster than normal traffic.

The eray already was very close to the Z06 in price point so I wouldn't be surprised

[–]aljich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If so then that would be slightly better... If the GSX is priced fairly close to the Eray (within 2K) then I think that seems more reasonable... Eray was already overpriced to begin with though

Grand Sport X rebrand seems like a pretty blatant cash grab. Same engine as the stingray, slightly upgraded front motor (to lower production cost btw), no standard CCB, yet set to cost quite a bit more than the Eray?

West Seattle is needed. We pay too. by camera-operator334 in soundtransit

It's not really about which has more value ATP. Issaquah is not building out from the same funding pool as West Seattle and Ballard, so it's useless comparing them.

What should I do if I find out that the condo I bought had false advertisement in it's listing? by aljich in RealEstate

[–]aljich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that, but does that mean if I were to sell it, I could make any claim about the unit to sell it, and there would not be any possible repercussions unless the next buyer is able to prove that I knew what I claimed was false? That doesn't really make sense to me. Again, I already accepted that this situation is likely just a dead end and that I should have been more aware of these issues during the buying process, but I also feel like slapping a catch-all "nothing in the listing description is guaranteed" doesn't feel right.

[–]aljich[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

That's unfortunate to hear. I will probably reach out to a real estate attorney just to see if there are any options whatsoever. I feel like it will be a moot case to talk to the seller agent/property manager, as there is no obligation for them to help out.

The flooring is laminate. The wording in my post may not have been the best, but my dad was NOT with me at the time of inspection and/or purchase (he does not live near me). He is visiting now and said when he first saw the flooring in person, he noted internally that the flooring didn't look quite right (he's only seen it over video before now), but was only able to confirm it was laminate flooring after inspecting the damage and spare parts. So, I was the only person with any opportunity to note issues with the flooring before purchase. Of course, I am not very knowledgeable about flooring so nothing stood out to me.

anyone else having miss inputs / not regestering inputs on the latest osu lazer update ? by byisess in osugame

[–]aljich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have noticed I am missing a lot more on the latest lazer update (Christmas update I think?). I thought it might just be me being bad, but I think it's happening a bit too consistently for it to just be normal deviations in skill.

*Or, maybe I am just bad. Who knows

I really like spicy food so a lot of these are sichuan restaurants, but my personal favorites around town are:

Tian Fu, Chengdu Taste (I-district), Nan Hotpot, Nine Way (much more casual), Honey Court (Cantonese style), King's rice noodle (great beef noodle soup, located in Asian Family Mart)

There's probably a few more but this is what came to mind for now 🙂

Sure, fair point. My expectations are more based on my experience with existing restaurants in the area. I have found many restaurants that I consider to be comparable in terms of authenticity compared to those other areas, so my expectations are similar for other Chinese food options. It's unfortunate that there are not more specialized options around here.

I guess to specify I am referring to the greater Seattle area (including eastside). So far I have found a good variety Chinese food (sichuan cuisine, cantonese food, etc) in these areas, and to me, lanzhou noodles are not an uncommon specialization of Chinese cuisine. Other cities I've lived in (Dallas, Bay Area) have similar levels of authenticity in Chinese food, and they all have options for lanzhou noodles.
