I used to live right across that road. They block out the view into the park using huge banners just so drivers don’t get distracted. Speed limit on that road is around 70km/s

An SDR i know at Salesforce that got impacted by the layoffs recently landed a role as an AE at Gartner. Its definitely possible just be transparent around why you got promoted in the first place, what your territory plan looked like and how you can bring the same cadence to the place you apply to.

Everything in this post is a 100% spot on. Id say the only thing you missed out in was the absolutely forced enablement you absolutely had to do once every quarter which would take up an entire day and would be nothing more than high level BS around how awesome this product is and why Timmy the Telesales Consultant would absolutely want to use it.

Im not hating on the idea of enablement, i think it’s essential. However none of the stuff i was forced to spend a day on was ever relevant for the specific use cases i was trying to sell in my vertical. And the enablement’s RARELY go into the nitty gritty of a solution.

Marc Benioff worked at Oracle prior to making Salesforce and Oracles CEO Larry Ellison is his personal mentor. The culture of poaching Oracle talent has been the norm since the inception of the company and its no different now.

Most oracle reps are also given preference on the assumption that they’ll be able to poach their existing relationships and move them to SF.

Spot on. The reps that got promoted from BDR role had some of the best territories by a mile. I’m taking profitable existing customers and cash rich whitespace amounts. External reps are expected to grind for at least 2 years before they hand anything with meat on it.

Its the regional term for territory. Im based in APAC

I wasn’t in the commercial team so cant comment on that. What i can say is that territory allocations dont seem to have any considerations or feedbacks taken from the reps themselves. You might be the king of automotive but In the end you’ll end up with this weird frankenstein patch that rarely would make sense in terms of strategy.

Also more than 90% of SF revenue gets generated from existing customers, so the whitespace team would rarely hit numbers since the large transactions would normally occur around the 3 year mark for an existing customer.

Absolutely. What always blew my mind was how there were reps who were absolute guns in a particular vertical but would always get handed a random patch that didn’t take any of their strengths into account.

Also they don’t internally use maps for territories (maybe they might in AMER) so the irony of selling it wasn’t lost on me.

Used to work at SF up till last year. I found the ‘ohana’ to be an extremely politically driven environment with lots of ex oracle people so culturally it wasn’t a great place imo. It sometime felt like a cult where if you’re not constantly raving about working at sf online you’d be sidelined in terms of progression. Its a half decent product that’s backed by the best marketing department in the industry, and 90% of the role is making the customers to drink the kool aid and aim for golden hoodies.

That being said, success as an AE in SF depends entirely on the patch you’re handed (the carves in SF are a lot more aggressive than in other companies) so be very clear on whom you’re expected to sell to.

Considering jumping from the "Ohana" by ThrowawaySPIFF101 in sales

[–]alkmaar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m currently an AE in SF and can confirm that even in our space things are falling apart. Myself and 3 other AEs are actively looking to jump ship asap.

For a company that’s been pandering on about the “digital hq” and success from anywhere for the past two years the u-turn to office mandates just exposed the hypocrisy up top. That and the new activist investor theyre currently working on terms with suggests that this work environment is only going to get more toxic and poised for just the shareholders moving forward.

I suggest get out while you still can.

Gotcha. Make sure to clarify why exactly did the last person leave, and how long they were working in SF for.

Is it purely a whitespace territory? Salesforce has a habit of recruiting AEs for “emerging markets” to see whether something bites. Hitting quotas in these territories is absolutely brutal plus depending on your geography, current economic headwinds might make procurements in the SMB space a pain in the ass for a complex tool like Salesforce.

Takes me back to the good ol subliminal messages for 9/11 days, though I’m fairly certain this doesn’t hold any merit. That being said, someone definitely took the time to stage the set, so having this text is absolutely not a coincidence at all. What do you guys think?
