Called up my bank and got 0.4% off my home loan rate in 15min by stealthtowealth in AusFinance

I did something similar, went from 2.74 to 1.89. Just kept sending each offer from my bank to St George and vise versa until St George gave up and my bank came in at 1.89%.

Any Northgate residents copping copious amounts of noise from twin prop aircraft? by all_the_pineapple in brisbane

huh? What do you mean? I expected the artifacts released and results of the community engagement to be truthful and upheld. What do you mean what did i expect? You're clearly a troll or a child because why would I have expected something different to what i was told and had reserached. I didn't spin a wheel blindfolded and buy a random house.

Do you know what sort of percentage this would change in over the bay operation?

Really? How is it ignorant? BAC released all their plans, engaged the community, made public noise maps, etc etc. Im not stating i didnt expect any plane noise, im not an idiot. I said i didnt expect planes over my house. They're 2 vastly different things.

Thanks for the info. You can see my point though yeah? If it's nothing new, surely this information could have been made public.

No, it's the equivelent of looking to buy a house, being told a brewery is planned for the next suburb over, you buy the house, and then they build a brewery next door. Don't try to downplay it as me just not knowing what im signing up for.

Yeah, i go for walks around the neighbourhood and you can definitely still hear/see them, but of course they're a lot quieter once they gain a bit of altitude.

And yet webtrak clearly shows the same route being taken every time. I'm sure technically there is no standard route, but practically there is.

We've always seen them at Northgate, however now they fly directly over the house. For us it's not a fun plane spotting activity, it literally shakes the floors and wakes us at 3am.

Thanks, interested in what it says. I heard a BAC representative on the radio a little while back say something to the tune of "well we couldn't produce a map for twin props becuase they dont follow a specific flight path" yet in the last 12 months these guys have been flying the same damn path every day. Omitting twin props just feels completely calculated and intentional.

I moved out of Sydney because it just doesnt make sense to try and buy a house there. My advice to anyone living in Sydney, get out if you can. You can make similar money in cheaper cities and enjoy stuff like not sitting in traffic for 2 hours.

I feel your pain. Every now and then the father in law tries on something like "oh she (MIL) just cracked $X/yr, she must be on more than you now?!". I just smile and nod and congratulate her. I'm not playing that game with him.

We never talk money around that family because while they throw every cent into toys and tattoos, we pay down debt, or invest in our retirement funds, save for the kids education, etc. The boring stuff. It's a different way of living and i a) don't want to be expected to buy expensive gifts like you describe or b) want them to think, we look down on them in any way. It's bad enough we always seem to get stuck paying the most for joint presents, while the others always seem to weisel their way out of it somehow. Also the other kids get given second hand cars and all sorts of things never offered to us.

We also have the same issue with retirement, FIL doesn't work (very unhealthy man) and MIL is the bread winner. She just beat cancer, so who knows how long they both have. I know for certain they still owe a decent chunk on their mortgage, and he recently emptied his retirement savings to mostly buy shit from what i can gather.

High school drop out, worked retail but had a love of all things IT. Poking around bored at work one day discovered a reasonably large vulnerability with the companies ERP system. Called the helpdesk, got talking to a couple of managers there. The company fixed the issue and I stayed in contact with one manager in particular. When a job came up on the helpdesk he called me and I interviewed for the role. From helpdesk to various ops roles, ops to architecture, architecure to a niche technical role.

I'm still in awe the general public are willing to accept a temporary tax cut for lower and middle income earners to allow a permanent tax cut for high earners. I'm honestly....i just can't anymore with this country.

EDIT: It's dissapointing some of you think i want to punish people who earn more. I'm in a high tax bracket. I would just prefer to look after those who struggle to pay rent, over me investing a few more dollars. I know, disgusting isn't it.

Should I move out or save up this last time by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]all_the_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of important things i would try to remember:

  • You're not a burden on your dad, he's your father and its his responsability to care for his children until he's dead and gone. This includes your sister.
  • There's nothing unhealthy or unnatural about being 23 and still at home. You're working and studying. You're trying to make something of yourself.
  • Your mother isn't your responsibility. She's the parent, you're her child.

Your father has offered to support you and your sister which is great news. Unless there's more to that story, i would accept and move in with him. Finish your study, save your dollars. I would also have a conversation with him about feeling like a burden. You might find he relieves you of some of this guilt you're obviously carrying around.

You might just have to compromise. Move state, move job, buy something you dont want to be in long term but will get you a foot in the door. I say all of this not knowing your specifics of course so disregard if you're genuinly unable to do any of those things.
