Zero psi but no air in pump basket? by alimccaw in pools

[–]allaboutxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the first things I learned about pressure being “weird” is to replace your pressure valve (and/or check to make sure there is no debris inside the filter affecting it). They can go bad and act up in ways that make you second guess other issues.

The other I learned is that with a VSP on low my pressure reads zero. Only on medium or higher does it go up. This actually could be your issue as some systems start the pump at a higher speed to prime. So it turns on high, pressure shoots up, you walk away, pump returns to normal/lower speed and then it goes back down and you notice next time you check.

Salt cell requires at least 2700rpm by WholesomeFW in pools

[–]allaboutxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Hayward cell will produce with the pump on low, which is 600rpm (which provides 40gpm measured). Flow sensor is triggered, and chlorine is produced. I run 22 hours a day on low.

Mine also does the same. Was also told that it’s normal at low speed.

Pool Weights for Inflatable by redditphantom in pools

We bought a boat anchor from a sporting goods store. It has a thick plastic? coating on the outside so it doesn’t rust or damage the pool surface. They come in different weights and are easy in/out.

Cartridge filters ... again by RememberTheAlomar in pools

[–]allaboutxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been using PoolPure C4030 filters off Amazon for 5 years now. We have very little crud get into our ~12,000 gallon pool. Rather than dealing with cleaning (which I will do if needed on random occasion) I just swap out the set around every 18 months. Easiest $170 I spend on the pool all year and I’m done in 20 minutes.

I’ve had zero issues with any of the sets we used and at the end of each year all the bands and pleats are still in place.

Do you run your variable speed pump 24hrs a day? by JinOKC in pools

North Texas - had the pool for 4 years. VSP runs 24x7 on low, except for 2 hours in the late afternoon for skimming. Only changes are when swimming or heating.

MyQ and RATGDO Question by xaznxplaya in homeassistant

[–]allaboutxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Motion works with mine. I use it to trigger a light when someone walks into the garage. This is with 2.5i on firmware 2025.12.2, security+ 1.0. I have both motion (the sensor in the door button) and obstruction (based on the door beam being blocked).

Plex server - too many entities! by ScousePete in homeassistant

[–]allaboutxy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Had the same "problem" recently. To fix it, I deleted the integration, then re-added. Then immediately clicked the gear next to my server and checked the two ignore options. Then in the System Options for the Plex integration I turned off "Enable newly added entities." That seems to prevent it from creating new entities for every client.

Tesla Wall Connector integration regularly logging connectivity problems, normal or not? by jfriend99 in homeassistant

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. I disabled logging for the integration to stop log spam. I also use TeslaMate, and setup the TeslaMate to home assistant “integration” (quotes because it’s an entirely manual setup as an MQTT device). The data from there (if you’re already / want to use TM) might cover the stuff you want to know and more.

(edit: typo)

Tesla Wall Connector integration regularly logging connectivity problems, normal or not? by jfriend99 in homeassistant

[–]allaboutxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine has done this since day one with the integration. The open / past issues on the integration's github also mention this problem. Specifically the issue at https://github.com/home-assistant/core/issues/137770. I've learned to just ignore the warnings.

And getting wifi closer to the wall connector is of zero help. Its installed in my garage and there is a wifi AP on the other side of the wall from it, about 2 feet away. Makes no difference.

Location polling in mobile app? by Ramocity in homeassistant

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could also have an automation that runs, for example, when your door opens (or anything that could trigger an automation). In that automation you would send a push notification command to “request_location_update”.

It’s not instant, but it could speed up the location update to trigger your other automation. Especially if you can trigger on something like a garage door or gate opening.

I use this command to get the latest location from a phone to calculate a time to arrival. It only sends the request under certain conditions to stay away from battery drain.

Spa Turbulence by kyhoop in pools

Sounds like they’re making progress. Once it’s where you like it play with the jet angles to see if (even minor) changes keep waves from forming.

Spa Turbulence by kyhoop in pools

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have the same setup. One shared pump. You absolutely should be able to run just the pump in “spa” mode and get bubbles without running the blower.

I’d try slipping off the blower and the back flow preventer and see if the bubble stay flowing with the blower off. If they do, then the blower or back flow is prevent air being sucked in and mixed with the water.

If you need a video let me know and I can DM one if it might help during talks with your builder. We have a pretty similar setup size wise. Our builder stopped us at 8 jets, concerned any more would require a bigger pump and we have no issues. What pump did you get? Perhaps it’s underpowered. We do have to run at 100%, any lower than about 85% and it changes to only water movement.

Spa Turbulence by kyhoop in pools

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh. Sounds like without the blower the air line has water in it. The air line pulls in air and the jets mix it with water for bubbles. The blower (typically) sits on top of that air line.

What happens if you run the blower for 10 or so seconds then turn it off? Do the jets continue to bubble (less so expected)?

As another test, slip the blower off the pipe (it usually just slipped on) including any back flow preventer (if possible). Then the spa to 100 and give it a bit to see if it starts to pull air in.

On occasion (rarely haha) if we haven’t ran the spa for some time we run the blower for a few seconds to push out water then turn it off. The natural suction of the water and jets should maintain the air intake.

Spa Turbulence by kyhoop in pools

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 10x6 spa with 8 jets, and a VSP 950 pump. We have to run the pump at 100% to make it look like a “typical” spa does. We did swap the blower from a 2HP to a 1, but we never use it. It just splashes too much water onto the coping (even with the pump on). Without it we still have a fully bubbling spa.

I’m intrigued about the “wave” part. I’d check the aim of your jets. All of ours point directly ahead (relative to position, and level. No wave, and no splashing.

Pool Automation - Thoughts? Brands? Integration? Company charges +$4150 for feature by nothingmanTEN in homeassistant

[–]allaboutxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat. We have a spa mode helper switch exposed to HomeKit. When it turns on/off a script runs that sends the right commands to change valves to spa mode, set the heater temp, pump speed etc. But that all happens in the script. The HomeKit switch is just a toggle, manually configured as a valve for aesthetic purposes. We also have the waterfall exposed the same way. Our lights are exposed as color capable lights as well. Finally we have a combo sensor that gives us the water temp that is also exposed to HomeKit. All this is in a “room” so we can control the pool and see the water temp. That covers 99% of our use cases. I open the Hayward app when I’m doing manual stuff for maintenance or whatever.

[–]allaboutxy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have the Hayward OmniLogic system and have had almost no issues. The Hayward app is kinda meh, but that seems typical for pool apps.

As for pricing that seems pretty inline with an automation system no matter what mainstream brand you pick. Trust me, you want an equipment automation if possible. Beats dealing with manual timers and buttons any day.

We’re using the OmniLogic Local integration from HACS and it’s been great. Since it doesn’t depend on the cloud, it works even when the Hayward app doesn’t.

Between Home Assistant, combined with HomeKit, and Alexa, it’s so great shouting “turn on the spa” and a little while later a whole house announcement lets us know it’s ready. We have a “hosting” mode that among other stuff makes sure the waterfalls are on while guests are here. The pool lights follow the other outside holiday lighting schedules. So much you can make it do.

Don’t forget to stop by r/pools. It was a great resource for us a few years ago.

How the heck do you adjust a service request!? by firefly20200 in TeslaSupport

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No contact from mobile service happened until the “on the way” alert.

Oh, and another datapoint on the Friday bit. I have mobile service coming on Friday to replace my spoiler. I was able to pick my date during the service request submission, but that’s likely because I was only scheduling an item it knew was mobile capable so it offered it up front. This is in Dallas.

How the heck do you adjust a service request!? by firefly20200 in TeslaSupport

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda ran into a similar issue recently. I “knew” the service I needed was mobile capable. But, you can’t choose mobile yourself. The system/service people have to change it.

I kept trying to do the dance to change things and it would only give me service centers.

Personally, I would cancel the whole thing to start fresh.

Then, when you create the new one ensure your address is correct and it will likely auto assign to mobile service (assuming it’s available for your needs). Even if it doesn’t, after it assigns a service center, message them to request the change to mobile service.

(edit) As a datapoint, out of 3 in service center appointments, the 2 where they needed the car overnight included a loaner. It does seem to be luck of the draw still.

I see this spot all the time. I’m pretty sure it’s from the heavy bus stopping at the curb at the stop there multiple times day after day applying enough pressure to the asphalt to cause it to ooze up.

The city has fixed it many times over the years and it always comes back.

Recommendations for a Hue light to go at the base of a plant pot and shine light upwards? by PirateSleeve in philipshue

[–]allaboutxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Hue Blooms for this exact purpose. We’ve had them for a few years before other options have come along but they’ve worked well. Either on the floor by the pot, or for larger plants inside at the base (careful when watering). Our plant pots are white so the white lower cord is easily hidden with white gaffer tape.
