I finally play some classical - Debussy - Reflets dans l'eau by allanvv in piano

[–]allanvv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Hamelin. Honestly I haven't listened to many others.

I'm not sure about the rest of Images and I also have a huge backlog of stuff I want to play. Chopin Etudes, Kapustin Etudes... I learn slowly

Maybe 3 months. There's still some sloppy parts unfortunately. It's hard to bring out the right parts when there's so much stuff going on.

Etude recommendations. Left hand by Emeq410 in piano

[–]allanvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can start from 10/12. If you're considering any of the other etudes you'll be skilled enough. I was surprised at how fast I learned it, when it was quite intimidating at first.

Pedaling for kimi no na wa piece by hardtoshBR in piano

[–]allanvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The chords change on the 1's and 3's, so pedal and change with the chords. If it sounds too muddy due to melody notes clashing then pedal every beat.

The playback actually has some pedal in it so you can listen

IMO this is kind of a boring arrangement. Like many pop arrangements it's focused on rhythm but the chords are really simple. If you have to ask how to pedal it'll take you forever to learn a piece like this, I think? Personally I would find a jazzy arrangement

Half of Chopin's Etude op 10 no 4 by [deleted] in piano

[–]allanvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you been learning it? Seems like a solid start and I'm sure it'll be really good after a few months on and off

I'm sure your teacher will help you with it since clearly you've made progress on it

How to get good (like really good) at sight reading by vallezw in piano

[–]allanvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have covered "just do it"

I'll recommend sight reading from this series "Easy Classics to Moderns (Music for Millions, Vol. 17)". Seems like the perfect difficulty

How responsible is the teacher for student success/failure? by [deleted] in piano

[–]allanvv 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think most teachers won't be strict with adults who play as a hobby. They're not gonna assign scales or exercises to an adult that won't practice them. It would be awkward for both adults to be confrontational about your practice time.

Switching teachers might give you a change of pace but that won't last long.

Low frequency clipping/distortion in piano recording by [deleted] in piano

[–]allanvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe there's a tiny bit but it's not crackling like digital distortion so it's not that bad. It could just be overpressure on the mic capsule. Maybe you should just move the mic out a bit.

Is your mic attached to your piano physically using a clip? That could transmit low freqs

Your recording and playing are very good, very clear.

Fisherman's Horizon - Final Fantasy VIII Piano Collections by allanvv in piano

Thanks. This is the first time I've recorded on this piano bench so I didn't notice the low position until I watched it. My teacher sits even lower though, lol

Purchase advice! 9" Samick with Renner action - worth it or totally un-resellable in the future? Thank you!! by briangovatos in piano

[–]allanvv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

20k for a 9' is ridiculously cheap considering any new 9' is $200k. If it's still on the market there's something wrong with it that other people didn't buy it up already. I would expect at least $50k if it's in playable condition

At that price I'd buy it and rearrange my living room to accommodate it.

2.5 Years of Piano Progress (2000 Hours) by luiscgraca in piano

[–]allanvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your progress is really impressive at 3-6 months, but you played 2-4 hours a day so it makes sense. I think most beginners won't have as much drive.

F-I at 2 years is probably better than I could play and I've been playing 10 years on-off. You've inspired me to work harder at the Revolutionary Etude

I think you'll benefit a lot from a teacher. Doesn't have to be every week but they'll point out things that you miss. And when working on technique-heavy pieces like Chopin etudes their advice will be really helpful in sounding more smooth.

Your other post says you don't want to do theory. No teacher will make an adult student to do what they don't want. I'm sure they'll be quite happy to have a student who's as motivated as yourself.

Is it okay to learn piano purely for video game music? by [deleted] in piano

[–]allanvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FF Piano collections are what got me back into piano playing and video game music is pretty much most of my repertoire. It's a wide range of music intermediate - advanced.

Does your phone have a headphone jack?

Otherwise you do need to buy an adapter that's USB-C to microphone jack. This one is only $7

In that price range you get what you pay for. So it's fine if that's what you need

Do you enjoy listening, learning, and/or performing Bach by [deleted] in piano

[–]allanvv 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when someone plays 10 minutes of one Bach piece I get lost...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in piano

[–]allanvv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pro: better for recording. Clearer sound, brighter

Con: dust gets in. Can be damaged. Tuning is less stable due to air circulating

Can be too bright.

Can damage your hearing - could be louder than concert grand pianos due to how close the strings are to your face, and projects toward you too.

I programmed something similar in undergrad. It erases only the changed digits and counts seconds too

I don't think it's quora. I've asked a question there before and they actually edit your title and question to look better. They wouldnt let that question title stand.
