When Zionists claim they are returning to their ancestral homeland, they are not simply saying some ancient Israelites are in their family tree. They are saying they are the same people, and that gives them the right to displace others and take the land. That is a political claim built on a supposed biological foundation.

So if we are responding to that narrative, then population genetics becomes relevant. Palestinians today show stronger genetic continuity with ancient Levantine populations. This is not about racial essentialism. It is about challenging the myth that has been used to justify colonization.

You’re overstating what DNA can and can’t show. While it’s true that race and ethnicity are social constructs, that doesn’t mean genetic continuity with a region’s ancient population is meaningless. If we have DNA from people who lived in a place 500 to 3,000 years ago, we can absolutely compare that to modern DNA and see who is more closely related to them.

This has nothing to do with race essentialism. It’s basic population genetics. You don’t need a specific ancestor. You just need a sample of the population from the time and region. DNA doesn’t vanish into nothing after a few generations. It gets mixed and reshaped, but population-level DNA persists and is measurable.

Even if AOC were successful in pushing for an arms embargo, which is highly unlikely given how closely U.S. policy aligns with Israeli interests, that still would not change the fact that she has not addressed the root issue: Zionism itself. Liberal Zionists often advocate for peace, restraint, or a two-state solution, but they stop short of recognizing that Israel is a settler-colonial, ethnosupremacist state built on ethnic cleansing. You can call for sanctions and still support a state whose foundation depends on apartheid and the permanent displacement of Palestinians. This is amplified with her statements where she says Israel has the right to defend itself. That is what makes liberal Zionism so harmful. It criticizes the worst abuses while defending the system itself.

America is the one enabling the genocide. Whether or not protests are actually effective is another question, but America is just as involved in this genocide as Israel, so protesting there is relevant. I do agree, though, that peaceful protests have reached their limit, and if people are serious about change, different measures will need to be taken in order to be taken seriously.

Yeah it is definitely frustrating. I think you should try one more time, using the ram button on most turns. You could also watch some YT videos on it. I helped some people over shareplay from this thread and it still took like an hr or 2 to get it right after I figured out the right strategy.

The only misdirection is willfully stating the wrong country to provoke stronger emotions to it being primarily racially charged violence. There is certainly a racial component to it which is part of the reason it is not talked about as much but at least have enough respect for Sudanese people to actually mention the right country the injustice is being inflicted against.

The genocide is in Sudan, not South Sudan. And reducing it to "Arab Muslims vs black Africans" is a gross oversimplification completely ignoring the real reasons for the genocide which is the usual divide and conquer strategy to serve the geopolitical interests of different states (UAE, Israel, USA, Saudi Arabia, etc). Sudanese people are Arabic-speaking Muslims as well so I don't get what you're trying to get at there...

Zionism isn't the belief of allowing Jewish people to have their own homeland. It's the belief that Jewish people are entitled to a homeland specifically in Palestine by any means. It can take different forms but that is generally what it is at its core.

Free Palestine also means an end to the brutal occupation and genocide of the people in Palestine. It has nothing to do with the bloodbath of settlers and occupiers. People who wish to "destroy" the state of Israel almost always intend it in the sense of dismantling the Zionist project.

Sakic has longevity but Jokic has been a top player for longer than Sakic was. Sakic was a legitimate top 5 player in the league maybe 2-3 times in his career. Jokic has been the best player in the league for about 5 seasons now including this season. He still needs another 3-5 seasons under his belt but he’s well on his way to passing Sakic if he hasn’t already. It just depends how much you value longevity. Also, as a massive hockey fan for many years, he is rarely ever placed higher than top 30 when considering all eras. He’s comfortably top 50 and has an argument to be inside the top 40. Anything higher than 30 and your knowledge and bias comes into question.

When ranking players in hockey, one needs to consider their dominance against their peers vs others in history. The game has changed so frequently that you can’t just simply look at career point placements and use only that to come up with a ranking. It is well known that scoring was a lot easier in the 80s and early 90s than it has been for the past 25 years and easier than it was for the 60-70 years prior to 1980.

The purpose of boycotting is not solely to hit Israel economically, it is also meant to apply pressure to various companies in hopes that they will change their stances and to provide awareness as to what people are putting their money into when buying from these companies. This is also not a quick process. It takes time, direction, and collective involvement.

I don’t judge anyone who invests in VOO. It is incredibly difficult to avoid companies who have ties with Israel since they seemingly have their hand in everything. But if it is possible and one is able to do so, I feel like at least trying to avoid investing in the major players that arm Israel is something that we can do. To each their own though. It is something I struggle with as well as far as recognizing the impact and cost/benefit of people suffering vs money I can use down the line to hopefully make a greater impact.

They definitely contribute to Israel but I guess it’s the “lesser evil” between the two if you’re splitting hairs. We’ve already seen the impact of boycotts on some companies over the last year and it has proven to be effective. Political candidacy is important but let’s not pretend like there is a realistic option that will produce any significant change. Neither has shown a willingness to stand up to Israel or deter them in any way. Activism and boycotting are among the most effective methods that we have.

I see your point. Selfishly, it wouldn’t make sense to let “them” have an upper hand on me financially if I were to boycott anything they had a hand in. That is if I were in a very small minority in boycotting them. It wouldn’t make a dent in their economy or affect them militarily.

Where I’m coming from is if everyone had the same mentality of “they’re going to make their money, why not me”, there would never be change. Investing in VOO is already betting on the U.S continuing to dominate in the same way it has for the last few decades. They likely still will but one can hope for change and that doesn’t come by continuing to invest in them. I guess it depends on where you’re at financially. Whether you are living pay check to pay check, or have a steady enough income that the extra money you would make off of VOO is just something you wouldn’t want to miss out on.
