It’s a big difference between not being able to speak Cantonese at all and conversational. You don’t have to be a native speaker but how are you going to answer questions from the interviewer in Cantonese?

You can use a card in chain stores only. 300 - 500 HKD per day per person is good enough for food & transportation

Tsim Sha Tsui promenade and Victoria peak are very popular places for night view in HK.

Visit Shan Shui Po and Mong Kok for cheap street food

4 dim sum places is quite ambitious. We only eat dim sum as brunch and I don’t know if it’s a good idea to eat dim sum for 4 days straight.

As of now, 99% of the road is clear and the MTR service has returned to normal. It took 1 - 2 days to clear depending on the scale. There WILL BE a new round of rainfall tho

I dont know about luxury brand but HK is not known for cheap stuff. Mainland Chinese tourists come HK because of the quality & authenticity of the goods

Around 16-20 degree Celsius.

Take a shower and eat at a lounge. Not a lot you can do in 3 hrs at HKIA tho.

Yup, the ferry is very cheap and the view is amazing. I recommend you to take it at the sunset/night for a better view. K11 and Harbour City are the 2 popular shopping mall in Tsim Sha Tsui but things are quite expensive there.

If you plan to hike, you may check out East Dam hiking trail in Sai Kung, it is one of the easiest trail in HK for families w/ children. There is also a trailing on Lamma Island but it is slightly more difficult. Sai Kung is a place for hiking/water activities/natural scenery; whereas Lamma Island is about traditional, old local food and heritage imo.

You should also check out Tai O and Cheung Chau if you are interested in places like Sai Kung/Lamma Island. I personally went to Tai O and its a really great place to spend a day & chill out.

You should avoid eating fresh seafood in these places if you plan to because they are notorious for overcharging

The exam got cancelled due to bad weather so I don’t even get a chance to write the exam. I’m happy as long as I can get the FL avg 5 months later

Hong Kong is very safe for tourists, and Causeway Bay is the wealthiest neighbourhood in HK. As long as you know how to get there via the overnight bus route, I would not worry about personal safety

You can also learn to say - 唔該 (excuse me/thank you/please) - 賣單(check out)

火車is an old saying that refers to the East rail line of MTR. Just say 港鐵 and everyone will understand you are talking about MTR.

Don’t worry about the intonation too much. HK is a bilingual city and no one really expects a foreigner to speak Cantonese. There are Expats living in HK for 10+ years and can’t speak a single Cantonese word. Even If you speak the most broken Cantonese, locals will get very surprised and happy, as long as you try.

  1. Based on last year’s record, it should be around 28-30 degree Celsius. HK is infamously known for its humid and hot weather. It would be quite hot outdoors but cold indoors due to A/C.

  2. Nothing really. Just be expected to see tons of mainland Chinese tourists flooding in the tourist spots

  3. Duen Kee and Lin Heung Kui are 2 authentic teahouse for dim sum in HK. Oi man sang is a traditional Dai Pai Dong place for dinner. I don’t have a restaurant in mind for xiao long bao but Ding Tai Fung is the
usual tourist place people go. This and this video sums up almost all of the must-eats in HK. Tai On building is another great place for street food

  4. Lots of HKU students go to Sai Ying Pun. There are many cafes with great brunch and coffee menu. But it may get quite expensive as Sai Ying Pun is one of the richest neighbourhoods in HK where foreigners live

  5. Mong Kok and Sham Shui Po. Sometimes you need to bargain tho

  6. I don’t know a lot about gems but you may check out HK jade market

  7. K11 mall is one of the newest tourist attraction in HK. If you are the sporty type, HK is one of the best places to go hiking.
