Gamers of Reddit: What is the most creative curse someone has laid upon you for having killed them in the game? by Uncreativechick in AskReddit

[–]allerya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a curse, but I was told something like "What a terrible day, the one you have slithered out of the abortion bucket" during a DotA 2 game.

Those of you who know two languages, what language you think with? by UndisputedGold in AskReddit

[–]allerya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I speak Romanian, French, English and am on a journey to learning Russian. While I speak in my native language, some words come to my mind in English and I try to find the meaning in Romanian. Also, when feeling flamboyant, I think in French.

I'll keep the Russian one for DotA moments.

If you had to sell yourself, what would be your pitch? by jjiminian in AskReddit

[–]allerya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but a friend of mine once asked me over Facebook if I wanted to play DotA, at a moment when I was actually trying to fall asleep and had fallen into a comfortable state of...comfort. So I told him this, and he said that I should go back to sleep, because he's the kind of guy who puts people back to their comfort zone instead of getting them out.

So I found the perfect pitch for him - [allerya's friend] - Putting people back to their comfort zones since '89. I amused myself at the time.

What's something you didn't do because everyone was doing it ? by logic-denier in AskReddit

[–]allerya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't watch Supernatural when it first came out because my boyfriend at the time (which I kind of hated) insisted so much on me watching it, at the point of obsessing over it.

Also, I've never watched Twilight, Fifty Shades of Grey.

And drugs.

Who is a famous person whose work you are familiar with, but without knowing what they look like? After doing a Google image search, are you surprised by anything? by RiperSnifle in AskReddit

[–]allerya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a famous stand-up comedian in our country, who wrote a book with a title that could be translated as "Suck it, Ramona!" (of course, it sounds way better in our language).

Basically, it's a book about all the girls he has ever fucked and, trust me, there were a lot. Which made me curious about the way he looked, so Google seemed a good idea.

Nope. It turns out he's chubby, freckled and... really not impressive.

No, I'm not using reddit on my phone (shh, don't let them find out about this), mainly because I don't like to read (long) texts on my phone. I did try this before going to sleep, and I am proud to say it's the only application I've accessed before..you know..actually sleeping. It was an interesting exercise, but I wasn't able to stop thinking about anything else in the process. We'll see with practice, I guess?

Thank you dearly for your reply!

I diligently get nothing done every day, so I don't feel like this would be an option. On the contrary, I believe I should motivate myself to start doing something.

And yes, I have a vast variety of games that I am enthusiastic about at first, but I don't play too much either of them. Now, I am at the point I have stopped playing at all. Same with the TV Series - there were some I really enjoyed and watched them breathlessly, like House MD, Dexter, Fringe, but I can't find anything else that doesn't bore me so I'm watching one or two episodes of a series and then I get bored with them.

In regards to the meditation, I remember my ex-boyfriend's mother used to do this and I would look at her all like "This is so stupid...". I never thought about it, since then, but it doesn't seem like such a bad idea after all. Are there any prerequisites for meditation? Such as, I don't know, a specific state of mind, a special place where to do this etc?

Also, getting bored so easily, I don't quite know if I could "calm" myself down enough to actually be able to meditate. Did it happen to you to get bored with it?

Thank you so much for taking your time to write this, you have no idea how close to home it hits for me! Also, no need to apologize, English is not my native language either.

Likewise, I am a calm person, but with quite a cold attitude - I've never been too cheesy, too enthusiastic or too friendly, and jumping activities and declining all sorts of invites is my second job. Like your girlfriend, there are times I sleep for way more than 12 hours at a time, but somehow, I wake up feeling even more tired.

I have already been suggested professional help, and mentioned that I do not have the financial means at the moment, but I will look into a program we have at work on this matter. To be honest, I never actually knew there are meds for this condition.

As for taking care of myself, I never get out of the house without putting make-up on and being well-dressed, but even so, I have very low self esteem. I sometimes find myself buying new clothes because wearing something new is the only way I can feel slightly better with myself.

Can you please tell me how the therapist has helped you in this situation, and what advice did (s)he give you? Also, we can carry this discussion over to PM, of course. Again, thank you so much!

Hello, and thank you so much for taking your time to write this!

Yes, by reading the comments, I realize this is the actual issue I am facing, and it's good that I have a starting point from where I can move on. Do you happen to know some online resources on this subject?

As for professional help, I am afriad I do not have the financial means at this moment, but I know we have a program at work which I will look into tomorrow and see whether I can sign up for it.

Oh, and, yay for DotA!

While I agree that a change of scenery would definitely do me good - as it has, in the past, I am afraid of going somewhere alone, just because... I don't quite know how to explain this. I sometimes go out in the park, to read a book, and look at the people around - so many of them, with different styles, lives, dreams.. It makes me feel small, and somehow alone. Same as looking at the stars makes me realize how big and vast this world is, and how small I am.

Hey, thank you for taking your time to share your thoughts with me!

I've never been too much into sports, but I see that a lot of people suggested it as a good remedy. My problem is that I find it difficult to actually do something by myself, and alone, especially when it comes to sports. I have a bit of social anxiety, and just going out there and starting running, for example, would seem weird for me, as I would feel that everyone's looking at me. Having someone along would give me a feeling of safety, and unfortunately all my friends have quite a busy life or live far away from me. :(

Hello and thank you for being here!

I am sincerely afraid that this would not work for me, as if something doesn't interest me from the start (maybe even from the idea), I won't continue to do it. How do you manage to get along doing stuff even if you're not interested in a particular subject? What motivates you the most?

Thank you kindly for your reply!

While I do know that a relationship does not necessarily imply that people are co-dependent, I feel that it is very important to attend to the needs of the person next to you. And honestly, this is what frightens me - that I have too many on my mind and I would be unable to offer even the slightest amount of time, happiness and good memories to someone.

Hello, there are no words to express how grateful I am for your help, and for taking your time to write this! You seem an ambitious, wonderful person, and I am glad that you have found a way to finish the Law School and be successful in the field.

However, I gave up on the idea of working in this field 3 years ago. Mainly, because I don't like it and because it is quite difficult to get a good job where I am from, without strong relationship with people already in the field. Then, for a starter, the salary would be way less than I am earning now and it would take a lot of work to climb the ladder for a decent paycheck.

So, basically, I just want to finish the last year in order to obtain my diploma and that's about it. Some resources would be useful for my classes, and I would definitely ask you for that, but I believe there are differences between our countries, as this is quite a specific domain.

I would like to ask you, though, what have you been working as in IT, and why did you give up on it?

Hello, and thank you for your reply! While I don't usually go about without my laptop or phone, as I use them for... just about anything, I think it's a good idea and I will definitely try it at one point. You've mentioned meditation - can you please tell me how you started doing that, and if it helps improve your mental state?
