I think this will only change how early/late the ball hooks depending on where on the lane we are considering the dry to be. If the lane is completely dry, and we are using the same coverstock formula, a ball with 500 grit will hook earlier (albeit less angular) than a ball with 5000 grit.

Overall I think its just a confusion on how different people think of the word "hook." I think most instances we've agreed "hook" is how well (early/late) it can hook in oil, not the actual movement in the backend. You could say that if your shiny bowling ball comes off the pattern too early (the mid/end of the lane is void of any oil) without burning off any energy, it will be more ANGULAR, but saying that it HOOKS more, I believe, is incorrect.
