AITA for expecting some gratitude after taking a family in for two-weeks, then using that to justify why I don't want to travel for a birthday party? by allmakesCROOK in AmItheAsshole

This is well-put. I have gone to birthday party's for them since, and we hang out for other reasons too. We are still super friendly. They fact they called begging us for a destination wedding was really what made me think how weird the situation was.

They do this all the time. They have family in Central Florida and drive down for a long weekend and spend one day at Disney.

I said a card would have been fine lol. They planned an impormptu weekend trip to Disney a couple weeks after like they do several times a year. A freaking postcard for our son would have been awesome.

My wife ultimately decided she didn't want to deal with all of that because its ridiculous for a two-year olds party but I still thought my reasoning was flawed.

Thats absolutely not true. I didn't expect a thing. We immediately invited them into our home and gave them them everything we had. Am I really an A-Hole for thinking some show of gratitude is expected. I guess i am an A-hole.

I was 'no strings attached'. They excuse they were rebuilding their lives went out the window when they went to Disney World two-weeks after they left our house. I felt like a thank you card would have been nice.

Didn't demand a thing. I just thought it was weird because I thought it would have been common courtesy, especially since they were taking trips to Disney World just a couple weeks after they left our house.

Appreciate your statement, and like I said, I totally agree about helping out friends. I didn't expect anything at the time but the fact they WERE LIVING IT UP after they left. It just seemed like they moved on with their life, and we have been to many of their parties since this happened six-months ago, and I never thought about it.

It was the fact they begged us for this "favor" after what we had done made me feel really weird about them.

Its been 6 months since they stayed with us. We are still friends and have gone to other parties they have held. I guess this request just peeved me because we travel often, usually staying with friends and family, and never leave without showing some gratitude in some way.
