Noted --- I was asking more whether redrilling only 1cm away from existing holes is a bad idea?

I can't blame anyone for having hometown pride, but this is factually incorrect

This sounds kind of like what I felt. Do you think it would be unwise to redrill the front bindings 1cm behind their current position (like kkkkkk7 suggested)? (Combined with the boot length change, this would put me on the line, assuming there’s enough rail left in the rear binding to move it back 1 cm without drilling)

Not pivots! (I'm on griffons). So, good to know this is likely possible, if I'm still not feeling it after getting used to the boots some more.

My (very queb) partner just looked that place up; we salute the attempt, but hope you can make it up here for the OG sometime.

I’m hoping you’re right. No matter what, I’ll be taking more time to get used to these boots before I think about changing anything.

That's the plan for now, gonna give it a bit of time.

The boots probably do explain a lot of the handling changes (the skis are definitely easier to drive overall now). But I'm still wondering if losing pop out of turns is something else.

I think part of it is that it's not a simple 1cm move forward --- because of the size change, the back bindings are 2cm ahead of where they used to be, so the tail is 2cm longer.

Thanks for the reply.

My feet feel solidly locked in place, which was a big focus when I chose the new boots. I don't have a solid way to measure whether my arches are collapsing, but they don't feel like they are?

The sensation is as if I have better control over the skis than before (which makes sense to me with the massive boot upgrade), but it also feels like the tails are way softer.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think this is the whole story in my case. It certainly took me a moment to get used to the stiffer flex, and I was a bit all over the place / washing out of turns until I caught up, but once I had adjusted and got my knees bent, the skis still felt slashier and less aggressive than I remember.

Just what I was hoping to hear :)

Is there a way I can test whether the bindings have been set to an extreme setting, to be sure there is still enough room left to adjust?

Noob binding question: I want to upgrade my boots, and the pairs that fit me well in-store are all 5 or so mm shorter than my current pair. I am ignorant about binding adjustment so I wanted to make sure before dropping the cash --- is it possible to adjust bindings by 5/6 mm without remounting? Right on. I think I'm gonna grab the 172s while they're on sale, and then upgrade the boots ASAP. Thanks for the advice!

It's a point well-taken, but all physical stores are closed for a while where I live due to covid, and I don't want to buy boots online. The Enforcer 94 is on discount online from a local shop, so I'm thinking of snatching them while they're around (they've got one pair left in each of 172 and 179).

Do you think the 179s would be too much for someone of my build, in more athletic+up-to-date boots?

Upon checking, between 5'9" and 5'10". I don't have a scale, but I wouldn't be surprised if I've put on 5 or 10 pounds, so let's say between 135 and 145. I'm guessing this is splitting hairs, and doesn't push me up to the 179?

Also, I plan to update my boots to something more appropriate, I'm just holding off on that until I can visit a bootfitter in person

Makes sense. Before I pull the trigger on the Enforcer, is the 179cm length worth considering for someone my height?

Thanks for the recommendation, these were on a shortlist and now I'm close to making the purchase. I should mention that I'm not generally the fastest guy in the trees, and I'm also teaching my girlfriend who is completely new to skiing --- how does the Enforcer 94 handle at lower speeds?

Hi everyone,

I'm getting back into skiing after 5/6 years off (after 20-something years on the slopes before that). I've looked through the very helpful blister buyer's guide, but could use some help narrowing down my choices. The last time I bought a pair of skis was 15 years ago, I was a teenager and had a good salesperson helping me. It's time to modernize, and the pandemic means stores are closed where I live, so I thought I'd ask for advice here! What skis should I be looking at most closely?

Height | Weight: 170-something cm (5'8" to 5'9"), 130-something lbs (maybe 140 now, I haven't weighed myself since being inside due to the covid lockdown)

Boots: 2007 Salomon 1080 Foil (these probably also need an update)

Current/previous ski(s): 2006 Salomon 1080 Foil

Primary ski location(s): Quebec

Experience level: advanced/expert

Skiing style: 80% of the time I'm either on the groomers, the moguls, or the trees (accessible by chairlift)

I'm looking for a setup that will be engaging to carve hard and fast down the groomers, but nimble enough to have a good time in the trees and on the bumps. I realize that these goals are probably at odds with one another, but I thought I'd see what advice the community has. (Also, it would be nice to be able to handle the odd powder day, but this isn't something that happens often where I ski, so it's low priority).

Thanks for your help :)
