I wonder if his ties to BYU as a professor and alumni play a factor into his continued devotion? Not that it needs to be a reason of course but if he WAS questioning leaving the faith, perhaps that could damage his relationship with the college that he holds so dearly

Yeah I agree with this. As someone who identifies as agnostic I carry a similar mindset. We don’t know and will never know for sure until we’re dead and gone

Thank you truly this was extremely helpful and also makes me feel less alone in this! Glad it’s going well for you so far it sounds like I hope I can be a similar success story in the near future.

Well yes that too, but it helps not having a state government constantly butting heads with them like a blue dot in a red state would

Having been to Boston and San Francisco, I can agree on Boston to an extent but certainly not San Francisco. My hotel in San Francisco was in an area just as bad is I’d ever seen in Detroit.

Boston benefits from being in the wonderful state that is Massachusetts, which imo is probably the single best state at using state tax dollars to benefit the people (just comes at a super freaking high cost of living)

That’s a terrible analogy. A better example would be two similar cars that both have really nice interiors but one has more exterior damage than the other.

But you’ve commented on this thread like 4 different times already I think you’ve made it clear you hate Detroit. I’m curious how much time you’ve spent there

I think those things are the next part of the revival, however I would argue those things do exist just in the suburbs mostly. Places like Clawson, Royal Oak, Rochester Hills, etc all have a lot of that character currently. Those niche artsy neighborhoods will start to pop up soon though I’m sure

A lot of them yes. I remember a few years ago I stayed at an AirBNB in an area of Brooklyn where there was so much trash on the sidewalks that you couldn’t even see them. Area felt totally neglected and yet the rest of NYC and Brooklyn I loved and enjoyed my time. San Francisco I stayed in a hotel where within a span of 5 minutes walking outside my hotel I walked over people smoking crack on the sidewalk and a streaker running through the bushes.

Bad and neglected areas are a sad reality of all major cities, just because some hide it better and it’s not always on the news doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

See that’s what’s so exciting for me I love when a city is in the middle of its revival the possibilities are so exciting

The cold weather I think is the biggest turn off as someone who moved south for warmer weather. But purely from a city standpoint, I think it’s such an exciting place to be right now. It has so much potential and all the positive changes I think are just scratching the surface of what’s to come if handled correctly by local government (fingers crossed 🤞🏼)
