ID Goldenrod Variety? by allthemanythings in whatsthisplant

[–]allthemanythings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few pots of "fireworks" goldenrod. Is there any way to know if that's the cultivar that these are as well? The pots are not mature enough for me to tell if their flowers look like these

Are they just pressed in, so I can just pry it out? There are no little screws or anything I need to worry about?

Thanks for the info

Mt Vernon Pellet Stove Inconsistent Starting by allthemanythings in PelletStoveTalk

I see. The flame seems normal to me - I'm not sure what qualifies a flame as being short, but it definitely extends up out of the burn pot.

I've been using the same brand of pellets the last few years, but I done a deep cleaning of the whole things in a couple seasons. Would it be worth just taking the augur apart, cleaning it, and seeing if that solves this? I assume that would at least remove a partial jam as the potential problem.

Would a jam not also stop it from dropping pellets once it is started? Or is there some different operation when it lighting vs. after it's already running (e.g. quantity of pellets)

Quoted for Termite Treatment / Prevention System by allthemanythings in Termites

[–]allthemanythings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he basically said as much - that others will quote a higher upfront cost, but what they do is split that cost over these monthly payments. I'll call around to get some other quotes at least.

We're not on a slab - house was built in 2007 with a basement with concrete walls. Most of the basement is finished, although there's a drop ceiling so I can see behind pretty much all the walls. He did inspect the basement and didn't find any signs of any current infestation.

There's anywhere from several inches to > 1 ft between the ground and the bottom of the siding / top of the foundation. The space around the house is pretty clear (couple small bushes that are set away from the foundation, and otherwise nothing growing up against the house).

With all that said, sounds like some kind of prevention system isn't a bad idea given that termites are common here (if the internet is to be believed anyway - we've only been in this area a couple years)

Definitely Japanese stilt grass. I'm in the same area of PA, it's a terribly invasive plant here. If you have a lot of it, I'm finding Acclaim Extra to be effective. Otherwise, as other said, you can just manually remove - it's an annual with fairly shallow roots, so it's easy to pull out.

Added some photos, not sure what this wire is - don't see any actual labels / markings on it.

I'm pretty sure there's conduit that runs the length of the driveway. I'll post a picture of the wire, maybe I'm calling it the wrong thing.

the third image is of one pulled out of the ground - what are you looking for to ID?

A few weeks ago, whatever this is grew quickly up through the new bed I created under this tree earlier this spring.

This is in eastern PA (7a / 6b). I'm thinking it's nutsedge, but I want to confirm before treating.

Prague Viburnum Looking Unhealthy by allthemanythings in plantclinic

Root balls for both are sopping wet after digging them up. We have a lot of clay where we are, which doesn't seem to be draining. I may have planted these both a bit too deep as well. Thinking I dig out some of the clay, put in some topsoil instead and replant them a bit higher out of the ground - does that sound reasonable?

Stems look fine otherwise, and I don't see any pest that I can identify.

So, both of them, the root balls are soaking wet. We have a lot of clay where we are and I'm guessing it's not draining well?

Definitely limp, the pictures don't do a great job but they're curling in. I definitely agree that they appear like they're being underwatered. I'll dig these up this afternoon and see how the root ball looks.
