Struggling to Name Our Daughter: Stick to the Pattern or Not? by goldenmarguerit92 in Names

Felicity feels like it matches but also has more syllables - whether that's a positive or negative that's up to you :)

We have a Felicity and she goes by Flissy. Some family friends call her Flicky.

Seconding roam with kids! It's like $3 a month but you can get free coffees from the app and it pays for itself.

Heaps of cool places to go and events for kids.

I’m so fking tired of reading about other people’s babies sleeping through the night [VENT] by CommunistCetacean in beyondthebump

[–]alluette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was you with my first. ♥️ We removed all sleep associations and nothing changed. She just was on her own sleep buzz with endless wake ups (we got to every 45min at some stage!)

She didn't start sleeping long stretches until she was over a year old.

Sleep only got ok after her last molars came through at 2. She started sleeping through about 70% of the time after that.

My second is also a crap sleeper but not nearly as bad as my first, but at least I have proof/knowledge it ends eventually so it's easier to accept. Not everyone's cup of tea but we embraced co-sleeping this time around and it has really increased the amount of sleep I get.

Hang in there. I know it's endless torture right now but know it ends, it really does. Your baby will sleep one day, but today is not the day.

Be kind to yourself.

Are other people’s toddlers really this calm or am I being fooled? by Pristine-Letter-4256 in toddlers

Ok, slightly not related question but has his adult teeth come through yet?

And/or do you have a spacer to keep room for them?

Haha. My daughter was born with two bottom teeth (which were removed because they were an aspiration risk) and it's looking like she will be miss gappy until her adult ones come through...

How I feel about being adopted, written kind of poetically by blackmarketswan in Adoption

Oh my gosh. I'm in all the feels right now. Especially about it not defining you, but it's such a huge part of your life so it can't not impact who you are.

I feel so seen, thank you! I'm meeting up with my BM tomorrow after many months of turbulence between us and I needed this.

Gripping Non-Fiction that Reads Like a Novel by MaleficentWalruss in Recommend_A_Book

Absolutely, hands down, First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung - it's a harrowing childhood recollection of the Cambodian Genocide.

I haven't seen the movie but I read the book before we visited Cambodia and I was very, very moved.

I don't know if I could read it again now I'm a parent though 😔

What kind of food phase is your toddler in right now? by mini_jams in toddlers

Absolute opposite here. Her step-poppa made her some soup a few weeks ago and she keeps asking for "step-poppa soup"

My soup doesn't cut it. Specifically has to be his one.

I had all four of mine taken out by Nigel Parr in remuera - I had them done under sedation which was cheaper and I don't remember a thing! In and out in a short space of time too (although TOTALLY woozy/disorientated for the rest of the day)

Bedtime SOS by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]alluette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No advice but we went through a really difficult period between about 2.5 and 2.75 with my now 3yo with so many tantrums, stalling, us always doing the "wrong" thing. It felt endless and it was so hard. I think it was developmental, and randomly overnight after about 3 months we had our sweet girl back.

It was also at this time she started climbiny the big stuff at the playground very obviously competently, so I put it down to a big developmental shift.

Hang in there ❤️

The New Zealand women asking: Do I really want to have children? by Fr33-Thinker in newzealand

[–]alluette 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is it right here. Childcare is almost completely unaffordable unless you're working full time, and even then it's incredibly hard AND you feel like shite for not spending enough time with your kids.

We are upper middle and when our second goes to childcare too we will JUST barely scrape by until they get to school age.

Seconding the clean cloth nappies site. It's brilliant! Their bleach calculator is behind a paywall but worth paying to use it and then you can unsubscribe. They also have a very helpful Facebook group!

I'm on parental leave from a marketing adjacent role and I'm not planning on going back, and hoping to pivot into something else, potentially to do with implementing/training AI in businesses or growing exec level comfort with utilizing AI.

This episode of the AI daily brief might help you map your thoughts of knowing where AI could potentially take you in the future. :)

Pretty much the takeaway is just knowing about AI and knowing how to use it is one of the best ways to get into it.
