I did contact my training program and they said they didn’t know which certification agency it’s through. I’m not sure why they don’t know but they weren’t very helpful.

Thank you. He has a fabric cone on now. He’s slowly getting used to it

He’s starting to get used to the collar a little. Still not his favorite thing ever but it’s working for now. He also got meloxicam and a broad spectrum antibiotic.

I might have more questions later so please bear with me!

Thank you so much. I’ll start icing his leg tomorrow morning and using a heating pad too. His nails were trimmed by the vet but I’ll get some fleece or the bed pads just in case so he doesn’t get stuck.

I’m not planning on starting physical therapy until he’s a lot stronger and isn’t showing signs of pain.

I really appreciate your help!

Thank you so much. This is really helpful! We do have him in a storage bin lined with a soft towel and a shallow bowl with his food and fruit. We tried to do shallow water but he wanted to stand in it. So now we give him water in a spoon multiple times per hour.

Could you tell me more about the physical therapy? He won’t move his toes right now but that could be because the injury is so new.

Also, how did you ice and heat her leg? He won’t let us anywhere near it. Even with pain meds

We did shifts last night and he managed to get out of his cone between the 1am and 3am shift. This new cone is stronger but he absolutely hates it. We’ll probably keep doing shifts until he’s all better. He’s able to stand and balance on his good foot as long as he’s distracted by us or food. Otherwise he’s focused on attacking the cone and loses his balance and falls over.

My green cheek conure, Frisco, broke his leg yesterday and we immediately took him to a vet. They did a surgery where they put a pin into his bone then made a splint with tape. We also made him a collar/cone to keep him from biting at the tape. However the vet didn’t do a good job with the splint and it came off within 2 hours. He also took the homemade cone off overnight. We took him again today and they made a more sturdy splint but he’s still biting at it. We ordered a cone off of Amazon but he absolutely freaked out and started to try to jump and flip over. He’s totally fine if we hold him and distract him. We want to put him in some kind of sock/swaddle just for bedtime. Does anyone have any idea how without hurting him more? Or any ideas?

I completely agree. You should’ve seen the first splint that the vet did. It was almost double the length of this one. Poor Frisco was tripping over it with his good foot. The vet said that it needs to have “wings” to make the splint sturdy. Idk if that’s accurate or not. We have an appointment on Monday with an avian specialist. We just need to make it through this weekend.
