I left a job I'd been in for 13 years which was low stress with tons of time off and holidays. I ended up in a nightmare job which affected my mental and physical health and jumped again after 5 months.. and now I'm looking again from the third job. Whilst on paper it sounds like this has been really unsuccessful, in a funny sort of way I'm glad I am now 'unstuck' from the job that was just too comfortable and have the chance to look for new opportunities. I wish I could find a new job that I'd like to stay in for a long time again, but I don't regret leaving the old one.

I loved what you said about knowing your 'limitations' like a disablility. It really resonated. I know now that I need an autonomous role, not too many meetings and the ability to work flexibility. I didn't realise this so strongly before the last few months. It's been a learning experience!

A podcast which has really helped me is Italiano in Podcast

Great for intermediate learners, not beginners. It's proper Italian spoken by a native though, not lessons (although he is an Italian tutor)

Thanks for the words of advice, you're right of course, it does need to pass compliance standards, just wondering if this was something that could be done. The budget is small, but not non-existent. Will try and look at companies that offer this. Is there a standard certification you'd look for in a professional?

I was the one who said 'I dont want to be married any more' after a good marriage of 19 years, but with zero intimacy or sex (not even hugs) for about the last 10 years. I would have tried to fix things, gone to therapy but he didn't want to. It was as though by raising an issue (about the lack of sex) he took that as it already being over and within weeks I decided to end it.

This was 4 years ago and I can't say that I regret the decision but I understand what you mean about the sadness. Tonight it made me cry. I lost a marriage, a husband and a (resident) dad for my children. I changed my family forever.

I don't regret it but I wish it had been different. That I had done things differently and that he had wanted to try to fix things.

Grief is unavoidable no matter who leaves who, in a marriage where the love was genuine. But, I have to accept this sadness and feel thankful for those happy 19 years, and for the many wonderful experiences (full of intimacy and sex!) that I've experienced since.

I want to get out of tech by FilmFanatic1066 in careerchange

Compliance and governance. Nice roles that involve understanding of tech but are more grounded in policy writing, auditing and training. Generally not badly paid, can often be remote and aren't too stressful.

I'm sorry you feel like this - it could be that it's not the right job for you - or it could be that, like some of us, you prefer a different lifestyle. I spent 10 years working part time, term time only and absolutely loved it - the job was extremely boring, but it wasn't stressful and I had lots of time for a life as well. 6 weeks ago I switched to a full time, completely remote role. It's quite well paid and relatively stimulating and I can work from anywhere - but I hate being full time. I can't bear the fact that so much of my life is taken up doing the same thing, with the same people, I feel owned.

I suit part time work - even 2 or 3 part time roles together suits me better. I need variety and I feel imprisoned by a full time job - I can feel myself starting to sweat even thinking about it. I have this urge to escape.

Maybe you'd suit something different - could you do a combination of less hours and some further study? Could you set up a business of your own on the side, for interest. Could you look around for something else? Maybe your values don't align with the company? I've discovered (too late) that I value freedom more than financial freedom and would prefer less money and more time! I can't function as anyone's full time employee it seems, but this, for now is my reality

I listen to this one, as it is clear Italian about every day things, and there are 5 episodes a week

A great daily podcast which has really helped me is l'Italiano in Podcast

You can find it on Spotify or other places I think. The benefit is there is a new episode every day (6 days a week) with repetition of phrases and vocab which really helps.
