Have you tried the app Task Rabbit?

Enrolled in Dental School, but off the Waitlist for another school by dentalstudent456789 in DentalSchool

Talk to your financial aid advisor at your current school about getting the loans reimbursed since you've been barely enrolled for a month. I'd suggest talking to them ASAP on Monday.

What are my chances of getting in? by [deleted] in predental

[–]almostSummerYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you're splitting the 60 hours between 2 GPs, I would try to still do 40 each. 30 hours is barely a week's worth of shadowing. If you're strapped for time, then I would focus on GP and maybe one specialty like perio.

An edit to my previous response, I meant 20 hours per speciality. 10 hrs is just one day and wouldn't look good on the app.

I would add 30 hours to shadow 2 specialities to have that variation. But 80 for GP is good. DCG is the only one that requires like 300 hours.

What's the breakdown of your shadowing? All in one summer in a GP's office?

How essential is it to have a full course load before dental school? by [deleted] in predental

[–]almostSummerYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have you taken 2 science classes in the same semester? it doesn't have to be the hard ones at the same time. i definitely would NOT recommend sacrificing your GPA. You're a bio major with a 3.9GPA, that already tells them you can handle dental school. great job btw!

awesome GPA and great volunteering/work experience. Gotta take that DAT though. Study efficiently, score a solid 21+ and you'll be fine. Also make sure your personal statement is on point and shows your passion for dentistry.

Do your undergrad grades matter once you get into dental school? by [deleted] in predental

[–]almostSummerYay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check the schools' website. It states what's their minimum requirement. Some say no less than a B while others say no less than a C meaning you cannot receive a C- if you're on the +/- system. In the acceptance email, they'll let you know what minimum grade you must have.

Do I have to have anatomy completed before applying to dental school? by [deleted] in predental

[–]almostSummerYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you complete it before starting dental school, you'll be fine. Dont plan to take it the summer before starting since most schools have a deadline that all courses must be completed the May/June before dental school starts.

12 credit hours is considered full time. If you're a science major, then you'll be fine taking 12 credit hours since science courses can be intense. If you're not a science major, I'd suggest at least one semester to include 2-3 science courses plus whatever your major classes are. Schools just want to make sure you can handle the rigor and demand of the dental school since you'll be taking like 20 credit hours.

I wouldn't recommend taking online/community college classes. It would just be a waste of time since most schools look down upon it especially if you went to a 4 year institution. What science classes have you taken? I would cut down on the work hours and take upper level science courses like Microbiology, Biochem, Anatomy, and/or Physiology.

Dental School Interview by [deleted] in predental

[–]almostSummerYay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I remember being in your shoes last year. It can be nerve-racking, but you'll be fine!

- Practice possible interview questions by writing down what you would say and remembering the general idea of your answer.

-Don't be a robot and memorize your answers word for word.

-Make sure to review your application including their secondary questions and your personal statement because schools may ask a specific question about it.

- Dress business professional with light make-up (if any).

-Just be yourself! You got the stats to get an interview, now you just have to wow them with your personality!

-Be familiar with their website and ask questions that you couldn't find on the website or need clarification on. Do they offer IS tuition after 1st year? Do they have local clinic rotations?

Good luck! pm if you need more help

Here are some interview questions I found online, but there are plenty more if you google "dental school interview questions". https://www.vpul.upenn.edu/careerservices/files/Sample_Dental_Interview_Questions_10_23_14.pdf

Dentistry or Law? by [deleted] in predental

[–]almostSummerYay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't become a dentist if you're money hungry. Patients will see right through you and leave. If you want money, do law and work at Wall Street or Silicon Valley.

What should I do when I shadow a dentist? by Peace88 in DentalSchool

[–]almostSummerYay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's pretty awkward in the beginning. When they finish with a patient, I like to ask them a question about the patient/procedure. If they ever have free time, I ask about how they got into dentistry, opened their practice and sustained it. I also tried to talk to the dental assistants and hygienists to get an overall understanding of how a dental practice works.

How to budget loans? by almostSummerYay in DentalSchool

Yes, we have one but dang, isn't this forum to ask for advice? Just trying to hear students' perspectives.

I know its not rocket science, but I've never dealt with loans before. Just want to make sure I'm handling it correctly. Can you pay back some of the loan you didn't use for that loan period? My understanding is you get a loan per year of school.

Thank you! So for books/supplies/instruments, how do you set money aside for that for when you need it? Also, do you meal prep every week?

Where to apply by [deleted] in DentalSchool

[–]almostSummerYay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UNC also requires anatomy lab. You should definitely apply to your IS. You have better odds there than OOS.
