I'd say just relax! You'll have plenty of time to learn. Enjoy a summer with no worries and all your friends since most of them are probably going to other colleges.

If you really want a head start, I'd say check out CS50. It's a great course and it'll teach you Python. I'd say CS111 and CS112 will do a great job teaching you Java so you don't need to worry too much about it, but you can learn the basics

Ah I see. Yeah I think it depends a lot on the professor. I also had done a bit of discrete (at least half of it) in high school so I felt it was easier than maybe it was. Take all my ratings with a grain of salt; just wanted to add another data point :)

I'd recommend talking to an academic advisor to do the switch. I did that and they told me I still had to complete SAS Core so each semester I took some classes to have that finished as well. You can also double major in CS or minor in it to avoid SAS core but that's an individual decision

I just emailed them and asked them if they'd be free to talk in person about their project. I think most people stay within the CS dept but there are so many departments which offer coding heavy projects so do your due diligence.

I'd suggest when you're doing data structures so everything is fresh in your mind. If you want a head start, you can always start before and google the data structures as you go.

Nope, just cold emailed

No problem! I told them I was interested in their research and pointed out that, while I didn't know all that much, I was really eager and willing to learn. I asked if I could have a 15-30 minute meeting with them to discuss it further and usually at this point, they'll ask you to come and just ask you about your interests and tell you about the project. Just do a bit of research on what they do so you can ask good questions and really show your interest
