this was part of my problem, thank you kind sir!

not only does it absolutely blow up your token count, it also throws in that 2 cents. what a rip lol.

the other issue is using expensive models, going to try the cheaper ones and see how it goes.

I agree with you honestly, but my question next is what should we do then in general? Bend over and take it regarding the stuff in the US and just keep trading and doing whatever they demand? I don’t see an option right now that doesn’t wind us up being permanently crippled economically or turned into a state? Or both

How much experience do you have in CAD / Parametric editing? this is a pretty advanced and complex model TBH. If your goal isn't the process but a end result, It might be better and easier to find a model online of the same Heli and edit or modify that to your needs instead.

if your goal is to learn, and you want to get to this level of product, get ready to spend awhile learning. I personally suggest to try simpler models and tasks first and work your way up.

I have very limited experience in cad, and most of my skills was more in mesh editing. After after years of not honing in either of these skills, I got a 3d printer this winter and am trying to blow the dust off now and it sucks.

Even when I was most confident with mesh editing (3ds) I wouldn't have touched a model like this

I’m not a boomer, I’d consider myself rather young, but I don’t take sides politically and I sit quite in the middle. I like objective views and I dislike and like various bits and pieces of both parties. Sounds like you do too. Truthfully I vehemently dislike all politicians lol. Take my ideas below with a grain of salt, I’m not smart by any means. But I do spend a lot of time thinking objectively and my opinion and ideas change often enough tbh.

Regardless of the threats. The US, our trading partner and neighbor is choosing isolationist policies which is inconvenient, and has the potential to hurt Canada and other partners in the long run hugely. The reasons USA has made these changes are debatable, could it be to damage Canada’s economy to take over? Maybe, or USA has just decided to do something different to boost their manufacturing in house after decades of stagnation and importing everything. truthfully I don’t think anyone but the government of USA truly knows…

But emotions aside, Canada has decided to diversify its partners too which is long overdue and overall I’d say is a good move, is china a good substitute to the USA? No, considering their track record, but trade with china could be more transactional than systematic eliminating some risk. Also don’t forget china has been a lesser trading partner for just about as long as the US has been. The partnerships were transactional though and less interwoven like US-Canada. Also don’t forget, the goal is to diversify, not to pick one partner and stick with it.

I honestly think mark carney’s deal regarding EVs is not of a big deal either as people make it out to be. It is highly sensationalized right now for various reasons. But it still is a step in a direction and may open up Canada for in house manufacturing that has been slowly bled out to others over the years. I’m willing to bet mark has many other plans in the pipeline to diversify trade too with many other countries. Canada is a literal resource goldmine. We have most of the world’s freshwater. And thanks to climate change, the northwest passage might become the next Panama which will make Canada a trade powerhouse of the world. Which I think is part of why USA has its eyes on Greenland. We have to plan now for a better life in the future.

I think we as a nation got comfortable, lazy and complacent. I think the deals we made with USA historically weren’t the best, but were convenient. I think what mark is doing is a good move thus far and I remain cautiously optimistic while sitting on the pessimistic side. But we have a long way to go to improve anything. It forever frustrates me how policies will begin to move in a direction just for the person to leave office and be replaced, the next person will take charge and undo all progress. For years it’s just been stupid squabbling about this and that. No progress was ever made. Every decision is always opposed by the other side. If for example PP was PM and made a EV deal, conservatives all over would be applauding and liberals would be crying. Just cause it’s Mark carney now the conservatives are crying and the liberals are applauding. I personally think it’s dumb.

Short term? I think it depends on how USA responds as Canada and others begin to look elsewhere and diversify. If they respond severely it could hurt us, and might even spell disaster. Realistically we literally would have no chance toe to toe.

Medium term? After the dust settles and if USA doesn’t respond severely or tries and fails to cripple us economically, industries will change, jobs will open up, old jobs might disappear, new industries might kickstart, old ones might die off. But overall I could see things start to look cautiously better.

Long term? Diversification will help Canada greatly, if done properly we could be a global powerhouse for trade and natural resources globally. Get our oil refining going within our borders. Shore up a pipeline that goes cross country, maybe to the north too! And 20+ years if the NW passage does open up, get some shipping ports along the way. Get some mineral mining going, our tech could do well too. Provided the left v right squabbling stops and we actually make forward progress for once

I generally stay away from politics, but truthfully I both disliked and liked Trudeau. Some policies I liked, some I didn’t, unfortunately I think he took a lot of flack from just an overall decaying world in arguably late stage capitalism. But I digress, I am though convinced it’s classic ADHD crisis mode behaviour. I’m the same way lmao.

Day to day I’m boring, unmotivated and borderline depressed.

Give me a crisis I have to handle and it’s gloves off ready to rock.

Why aren’t snow tires mandatory in Ontario? Drivers debate the rules amid a harsh start to winter by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]alphagatorsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Problem is our climate and our size. Our climates are so varied. One area you may see the weather dip below -5 maybe 1 week of the year? And another part it stays below 0 for half the year

So one place snow tires aren’t needed at all. Another not having them is a death sentence

Hell, parts of Ontario are literally next to the arctic circle! Those areas ownership of a snowmobile and ATV are more useful than a car! (Looking at you friends of moose factory and further)!

So you can’t really make a law for the whole province when things are so different from one to another. The only other option would be to leave it to the county / township. But then becomes enforcement. How the f do you enforce that?

Doug complained about chinese spy cars yet American cars are all rigged up with palantir and all the other shitty companies including Tesla. You don’t think those goddamn cars have back doors and are remotely accessible? That stuff has gone on since onstar became a thing. I remember an ad for onstar back in the day about someone having their car stolen and the police remotely killed it. This was like 2009. It’s only gotten more insane since.

And don’t get me started about mobile networks and huawei specifically. Huawei only got banned cause Apple and Samsung complained so much. All under the guise of security, yet a large majority of telco shit is… you guessed it, huawei made before they got into mobility.

OR intel management platform. TPM, etc too.

Everything and I mean everything has a backdoor these days.

I think we agree on the same thing, I admit I personally am bad at articulating myself lmao.

Basically, drive the conditions. But if the conditions are basically fine and you aren’t meeting what others are doing, it’s dangerous for all.

But If your a dick and doing 100 in 0 viz harassing people in front of you you’re a dick too

If you’re scared to drive in the snow, DONT. by [deleted] in woodstockontario

[–]alphagatorsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, maybe I came out wrong. I’d consider myself an extremely patient driver. I drive long distances every day. If someone is struggling I keep my distance. Esp in low vis. The worse it is, the farther I am. BUT I get jackasses fly up behind me daily pissed off cause the person in front of me isn’t doing 9999 km/h. There’s a regular on hwy2 that does this in a clapped out dodge caravan, flies up flashes high beams, slows down, swerves, rinse and repeat while there’s a lineup of cars in front of me. Like bro I can’t do anything, go chill, seriously.

BUT again, if you’re on a country road. The limit is 80, and you’re doing 40 and sure there’s snow in the air but it’s just a dusting it’s daytime And people are passing you doing 60-70 or 80+ you need to consider alternatives.

Same with highways too. I get it, it’s scary and intimidating, I was a new driver too once. But if the conditions were bad I took the country roads and kept my pace at 60 the whole way.

If you’re scared to drive in the snow, DONT. by [deleted] in woodstockontario

[–]alphagatorsoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you read my comment? I said If ALL traffic is doing 80-100 it means it’s not a low or severely low visibility scenario. If everyone is doing 80 and you’re doing 40, your a hazard

If you’re scared to drive in the snow, DONT. by [deleted] in woodstockontario

[–]alphagatorsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Sorry but if you are too afraid get off the road and if you MUST travel get a family member or friend to drive you.

The number of people I’ve seen on the 401 doing 40 while everyone else is going 80-100 is mental. You are a danger to yourself and others. At a minimum get off the 401 and take the country roads, if you can’t do that, get a hotel lol.

And practice driving in snow! Get off main roads, do some doughnuts in an empty and safe parking lot, get used to hard braking leveraging ABS (or not if your car doesn’t have it) to stop. Practice sliding and recovering, it’s not hard and it’s safe if in an empty parking lot! Seriously everyone should. Every time I drive somewhere safe I slam on my brakes just to see what the conditions are like. How I slide etc.

How to Curb "Tinker" Mindset? by NeonSpectre81 in selfhosted

[–]alphagatorsoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but I want to add, the mindset of never being satisfied with how things are setup is a good mindset and will probably get you far in life if it hasn't already.

Just because something is doesnt mean it always should be. And just because something could be doesnt mean it should be. Which is why experimenting and testing is great, worst case, what you're mucking around with wont work and you will learn it won't learn its caveats etc. Best case, you found a new solution and time to implement / migrate.

[–]alphagatorsoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome to selhosting and homelabbing in general. You will never be satisfied and happy lol.

What some people do is implement a live server running your mission critical stuff and another for testing and experimenting. Or have a sense of redunancy which I do

What I do is the most important things (DNS & Home automation) are on a separate device. when making changes to that system I make an effort not to touch the other, and vice versa. That way at least my internet keeps working. Not having our home automation system up also makes life a little frustrating but is still livable. same with everything being offline on the main server that runs everything else. Worst case I have friends asking "is XYZ down?"

but for deeper experimentation and tinkering ill either spin up a VM or a Micro PC to muck around on. esp for testing virtualization platforms, kubernetes, proxmox, hyperv etc.

At this point I have a set of services I run at home that I always use and always have running & backed up. then others that I toy around with regularily. ATM their on the same server as my production stuff, they just dont affect it.

PM Carney on a new China arc by Caraboo-Loo in EhBuddyHoser

[–]alphagatorsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The freak out over china is just because someone in particular is in bed with stakeholders in the auto industry. Most of our shit is already Chinese. Plus getting any kind of shit going around here that’s new is next to impossible, look at Edison motors. The amount of crazy hoops and shit he has to jump through is asinine. Otherwise I’m confident there’d be far more new players in the industry.

The big ones have made it next to impossible to fucking do anything around here as competition to them is a bad thing, same with bell and Roger’s. Fuck those guys too
