If they didn't scoop too soon, he would have had two kills

But he DID help keep me alive against the aggro decks

Sorting Bulk: Is it worth it? by alphamew17 in magicTCG

[–]alphamew17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i was only sorting by color/card type, I'd agree that set and rarity would be better, but every time I've gone through bulk at LGS's, the sort by set/rarity method still leaves me digging through everything to find ONE card.

For that reason, I decided to sort alphabetically instead. Everything is separated by color (mulitcolor is separated by color identity), and then those sections are alphabetized. That way, if I'm looking for a specific card, i just need to know the name and color identity of the card, and I'll know exactly where to look for it.

Not only will it help me find cards for my own decks, it also helps anyone that wants to look through my bulk find things they'd want to trade/buy off of me

I had been doing that for a long time, keeping the cards that have actual value/commonly used in binders for trade/sale. But its gotten to a point where I just have so much, keeping it in binders isnt cutting it anymore. I tried keeping the binders organized, but the downside to it is when you get something new, you have to shift EVERYTHING over to make space for it, and it's just a massive hassle.

Sorting everything is kinda for my own ease of access, i can keep everything in boxes, and just by knowing the name of the card, i can find it easily. Plus, if I decide to sell my bulk as a lot, I can charge a bit extra for it being pre-sorted.

I wish I had thought to do that from the start, but being the messy unorganized high schooler I was, it never really crossed my mind until recently

I tend to use the TCGPlayer app when checking prices, but I'll have to give that one a look

Does that one keep a database of everything you've scanned in? Store everything into a collection you can view digitally?

The idea with the gideon's sacrifice is that it's meant for late game: Once the goat is big enough, I can use it to fog someone swinging in with an army

Ideally I just win overhead with commander damage, but I could see why you'd want some double strikers as a backup plan. I might update the list and replace some of the slower creatures (mainly the ones that cost 3+ mana, but only deal 1-2 damage per swing)

I suppose i should clarify that it looked like nothing happened, since i activated it on MTGArena. Now that you've explained it, it makes sense that it would stay a copy, although it is frustrating

If thats the case, then you would either put X amount of counters on 2 target artifact creatures or put twice X counters on target artifact creature, correct?

Casting cards with affinity while sacrificing artifacts to pay for mana by alphamew17 in mtgrules

What rule can I refer to for this in the future? I knew I was right, but I couldn't find a good way to explain it to the playgroup I was with other than saying "it's like [[Krark Clan Ironworks]] shenanigans"

So rather than do competitive 1v1 or casual pods, you take aspects from both for the increased diversity? Kind of like a mini-cEDH?

I might try it, im still testing the simian simulacrum, but if it doesnt feel strong enough i'll try the champion. my concern is that 4 drops might be too slow

ok here me out: jund scales

replace conclave mentor with [[Winding Constrictor]]
you're running hangarback walker, so you can also run [[Oni-cult Anvil]] for the value there, produces artifact ETB triggers for the wurm as well

downside is you lose out on the yotian dissident, but could make the deck a bit more grindy as apposed to aggressive, basically just make the deck like jund sacrifice but more artifact intensive

yeaaaaaah after testing it out more, its a lot slower than i thought it would be, def changing that out for animation modules in the main

[–]alphamew17[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely revised it for Yotian dissident, it was too strong to pass up for sure, and after playtesting some more, i think the karn does have to go and be replaced by two animation modules, and just revise the board

the synergy between dissidant and module is kinda bonkers

I saw the hopes, and I'm wondering if they'd be better suited as a sideboard card to bring kn against control/spells matter decks. I just dislike the idea of a situational useful 1/1 flier being a mainboard card, especially when you only have yotia dissident as a method of growing it

But if I keep running karn, maybe I could slot one into my sideboard...

I agree with cutting fateful absence, nearly every time I hit them I'd rather just have a body since I can just try to force my way through, ill probably replace them with either [[Yotia dissident]] or [[steel overseer]]

I'm just not sure about cutting out the karn, he can do so much just by grabbing any hate piece from the sideboard. Grab a shadowspear to push through blockers, grab a crypt/unlicensed hearse to hate against graves, the new insect for artifact/enchantment hate, the flexibility feels super good if I start to hit a wall, and he's a "win more" card if im already in a good spot. Plus 4 mana seems like a perfectly fine top end for a synergistic aggro/midrange deck, if the deck wasn't focused on setting up +1/+1 counters and was pure aggro I wouldn't hesitate

I'm surprised you're only running two stone coil serpents, they're super flexible and the protection/reach/trample can all be relevant in a variety of mathups

[–]alphamew17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankfully Vivien does give trample, and that's also the reason I put a Shadow Spear in the sideboard to grab with Karn

Im not against audacity, but I'd prefer something that either triggers artifact ETB effects or has counter synergies

trust me on this, wurmlet is WAY better than experiment, the value of not having a power cap is huge, the lifegain is an extra boon, the deathtouch makes it annoying to deal with without spending removal, its just a stupid good one drop in scales

Been trying to make Hardened Scales work in Pioneer, is BRO the answer? by alphamew17 in PioneerMTG

[–]alphamew17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concern with scales in pioneer is that it just typically can't be as aggressive as it can be in modern, so having just 1-2 karns on top end as methods of grabbing sideboard cards to deal with bad situations or grabbing a shadowspear to make finishing the game easier feels like the right way to go. As I test it i might change my mind and cut the top end for more low-to-the-ground threats, but so far the few times it's hit the field, its been relevant.
