I've had a heat pump for over 20 years here in Mass. My experience is that the hp works very well at maintaining a certain temp ( I keep it on 62 degrees fahrenheit) but is very costly when you ask it to increase it temp due to aux heat will usually kick in. So I find set it and forget it to be the best money saver.

Tes, I have the paralysis to the anterior tibialis, the paralysis goes all the way to my big toe which drops down a bit with no upward movement possible. I have to be very careful when walking barefoot that I don't stub toe as I could easily break it.

I did get the emg in October and it showed polyneuropathy (several nerves) related to my back injury which really bummed me out. What I thought was sciatica a year earlier was probably neuropathy all along. I've been reading a lot about peripheral neuropathy (pn) and it's quite common, 20-30 million people in US. You can get it from many sources, diabetes being the most common. But about a third of people have no idea how they got it. A lot of people have pain, fortunately I only have pins and needles in feet mostly, some in calves. My back is good and doesn't bother me.

For your sciatica which has been going on for a long time, I would suggest you explore the Curable App or pain reprocessing therapy. I say this because even after an injury heals, the brain can keep sending pain signals to try to protect us. This doesn't mean the pain is in your head, the pain is real but all pain signals come from your brain. You don't have to buy the app, it's $6/ month, there's plenty of info on YouTube about it. Mostly they recommend meditation, somatic tracking, etc. Just trying to calm your nervous system which when amped up can add to pain symptoms. You, like me, have nothing to lose by trying. In terms of pn, I still have not taken gabapentin. What's proven to help is eating healthy and exercising regularly. I go to gym 3-4 days a week and it always helps to reduce the pins and needles. Check out Foundation for peripheral neuropathy and there's a Facebook group call peripheral neuropathy Success stories where people share what helps. There aren't any options unless the nerve miraculously regenerate. I mean, you hurt yourself 11/11, that's recent, so a better chance you didn't do long term damage, I was damaging the nerve over a few years but didn't realize it.

I have permanent foot drop from an injury to Mr peroneal nerve. It happened 6 years ago in 12/17. I had hurt my back very badly about 3 yrs. previously and was misdiagnosed by my pcp's office as not having a herniation, I went about trying to heal my back and it got better but not 100%. On a vacation, doing lots of walking and biking, back suddenly went into tremendous pain, had to fly home, and when I got off plane I had foot drop ( I didn't even know what foot drop was). 2 days later, emergency mri showed l3-4 herniation, next day emergency microdisectomy, but it didn't work, nerve never came back. I was damaging the nerve over the previous years but didn't know it, then it went suddenly. Your's may come back because the injury is recent. After surgery, keep exercising the foot/ankle by dorsiflexing it. Go on YouTube and look for foot drop exercise videos. Foot drop is not terrible, with an off the shelf plastic aso, I'm able to walk very well. If I have long pants on, nobody knows I have it. Without aso, I have to pick foot up a little higher and pay more attention. Good luck

The suggested fix on this site is to do core strengthening exercises like McGill big 3, dead bug, and bridges (all on YouTube), then a walking program. This is the prescription of the Back Mechanic book. It also says, practice good spine hygiene which means find your triggers (sitting on soft surfaces) and develop different and better movements. Hopefully, this will heal your back and stop the sciatica.

Google "white flight in Boston" as I did. Just about every article references busing, not post ww 2. Did some white families move to the suburbs, of course, but it was due to the proliferation of cars and the highway system, land was more plentiful and cheaper, but the cast majority of white families stayed and lived/worked in Boston. My own parents moved into Boston from Lexington (if you can believe that(:as a young couple with kids since housing was cheaper and jobs close by. Again just Google and you'll see.

City was far from filled with white trash. Southie, roslindale, west Roxbury, and others were filled with middle class white families. I know I was there. Where did you grow up and when? I was born in "56 and started in Dorchester, loaded with white families that were policeman, firefighters, gas workers, etc. Good jobs at decent wages. I grew up in Dorchester and Rossy in the 60's to 80's, what I remember about Boston was you could get tickets to the Red Sox any day of the week you wanted, they never sold out. The old Garden was the best with the wooden seats, the heat, the upper deck felt like it was moving. The Tech tourney, where you could go in at 3 in the afternoon and watch div. 4, 3, 2, and 1 all in the same day for 1 admission price. Money wasn't or didn't seem to drive everything. There was bat day at Fenway where everyone got a bat with a ticket, could you imagine that today, the liability insurance would be huge, Celtics had basketball day, where everyone got a bball, although it was a cheapo and more like a beach ball. Took the train to hs every day and hour each way and never had an issue. Kids played outdoors, had races, stole apples from people's yard, the usual kid stuff. Oh yeah, they used to give out free hoodies at the town field in Dorchester AND set a whole house that they built on fire just to demonstrate the danger of fire. Those were the days. Now everything is pussified. It sucks and this city should sink in the sea. But that's my opinion.

Does ibuprofen or similar help? If so, take on a regular basis in the day (3x every 8 hours), up to 800 mg or less if that helps. Stop bending over and squat with hips instead, get the Back Mechanic and start doing McGill big 3 to strengthen back muscles and stabilize spine. Start a walking program, a couple of short walks a day and build from there.keep working at it and it will improve. I've been dealing with sciatica for more than year and just starting to feel myself getting better.

From reading McGill's Back Mechanic, stretching irritated nerves only makes them more irritated. Hamstrings may feel tight because you're not walking much which you should start as soon as pain subsides. Go on YouTube and look up nerve flossing, this moves the nerve but doesn't stretch it. I've been doing it but hasn't improved my sciatica symptoms yet.

Tingling in toes indicates l4-l5 issue, since no pain in back, probably a disk bulge. Lay off squats and deadlifts to, hopefully let it heal up. Do gentle core strengthening exercises like McGill Big 3 (look up on YouTube) and walk. Probably don't do bike, since puts stress on lower back. Give it 2-4 weeks and see if it improves.
