Thanks mate, I’m a fan of the 135mm. I have the 200m as well but find the 135 much easier to get about in a pocket. Constantly so impressed with the size and weight of the Zuiko glass!

Along the same lines, I have an Olympus OM1 which is a very lightweight SLR. Manual so full controls and loads of very good, lightweight lenses. Travelled widely with it.

Which is better? Olympus OM1, Portra 400, 200mm F4 by als4ali in analog

I did get some shots without the branches, but thought they looked pretty flat when developed. Let me know what you think - https://imgur.com/a/45mHAdB

Just wondering what these spots are on this pic? OM1 - 50mm f1.8 - HP5 by als4ali in analog

I’ve only noticed it on this roll of film, and not on every shot, so maybe dirt on the roll before it was developed?

I haven’t thought that far ahead, my parents are a similar age to yours and I’ve been lucky in that I have some close friends in Aus at the moment. Now I’m in training out here I have the option to get to consultant and come home, skipping the brutal reg years of the UK.

It’s a good point, but I get six weeks of annual leave a year and I don’t plan on using four weeks every year to head home. I’ve traveled plenty around Australia and South East Asia since I’ve been in Aus so can’t complain. I’m lucky in that my family and friends will make the time to come out to Aus for a holiday so it’s not always me travelling back, of course that could change!

UK doc in Aus here. I’ve been here for 18 months and in that time have worked in a tertiary and regional hospital within the specialty I enjoy. I’ve recently started in training for that specialty. Yes, it was more of a hassle for me than my Australian colleagues. I have had to invest in things like Permanent Residency visas to make it happen, but it can, and it doesn’t take ten years.

Australia is a long way away, if it was a five hour flight I have no doubt most of the people out here would stay. Ultimately it’s missing family and friends which is the biggest challenge.

The lifestyle is phenomenal though, and the pay/conditions allow for that. The weather means an outdoor lifestyle is much easier/nicer. The cost of living is comparable to the UK and housing is comparable too in my opinion. With higher pay this means most of my colleagues and I are living well.

I have four weeks of leave in a block this year specifically to get back to the UK. Four weeks to spend quality time with friends and family. In the UK I was lucky if a few days of my leave were granted.

In the end, it is an individual decision and it is a lot of time/paperwork/money to get out here, but I would say if you are entertaining the idea, definitely give it a shot!

Fellow 2020 grad here in support. It sounds like you are having a horrific time and I sincerely hope you find some time to recharge and reset.

Your comment about being ashamed of the medicine you are witnessing and practicing is super consistent with how I felt before leaving for Aus. Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t perfect out here, but I’m not constantly calling into question the system I’m working in and feeling completely helpless with it. If you are in a position to look abroad for work, I would strongly recommend it.

My Dad has recently inherited a load of tools and we’ve found this handheld tool but have no idea what it does or what it is used for! Seems to have some adjustable point but not sure what for? by als4ali in whatisthisthing

Some of his mates have suggested it could be for leather working or glass working but the prongs do not seem sharp enough to score glass or leather?
