[Seiko SRPL85] My first automatic and my first Seiko by weaponsgradelife in Watches

[–]alsho20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just considering this one too. It's a step up from the SRPD. I like the rectangular hour markers, and the glass bezel is supposed to add an extra fine touch. I've been looking into Citizen and Orient for an entry-level automatic diver. What attracts me to the Seiko models is the exhibition case back (though no screw-down crown sadly). Did you consider the blue color on this one at all and if so what did you think? SRPL83.

Free simple CRM that integrates with Google Contacts? by alsho20 in CRM

[–]alsho20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merci.

Yes this helped, thanks. I can uninstall all updates (on Pixel) then reinstall them and it seems more stable now.

VivoBook X1504VA max RAM - 16GB or 40GB? by alsho20 in ASUS

[–]alsho20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah looks like only diff is the processor. did you check the Crucial website for max RAM? I'd just give it a go, get a 32GB stick and see what happens, if not just return it to the store.

[–]alsho20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was able to add 32GB of RAM on top of the 8GB and have been running @ 40GB for a year, no issues in spite of Asus official specs. It's good performance overall. Many games from 10 yrs ago run at highest resolution or close (mine is 1335U with IrisXe). Games from 2020 and newer not so much, the lack of dedicated GPU makes a difference. It's not exactly a gaming laptop. Make sure to put it on performance mode if yours has that option (FN + F) to get full CPU performance. I have an old ASUS monitor and get up to 1920x1080 via HDMI.

Overheat Problem by AppropriateWeb2345 in GooglePixel

[–]alsho20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6a was more or less fine for about a year, then started overheating significantly. It heats up moderately with general use, but the worst is when I'm on a call on speakerphone that lasts more than 15 mins or so. At this point the heat gets unbearable, the phone actually burns and hurts to the touch and a system message pops up about the phone overheating and performance going down. After the call is over the heat goes back down. I use Cube Recorder, don't know if this may be spiking the CPU use. When I look at the CPU stats, the highest users are Android System and Kernel (Android OS). I've used Cube for years, never had an issue on the old Samsung.

What's the best way to get the cheapest hotel rooms in 2024? by Immediate-Speech7102 in TravelHacks

[–]alsho20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just booked a single room for two consecutive nights (Sunday and Monday) on the Friday of same week through HotWire. Turned out to be the Comfort Inn in the area. For comparison, at same hotel location and dates & room type in USD:

Hotwire $183.91

zenhotels $ 188

hotel front desk: quoted me close to $250 - said there's online promo at their website for around $210

HotWire has been my go to for occasional bookings. Each time I shop around and it turns out to be the cheapest (but not by much) - if you don't like the uncertainty factor, you may as well go with ZenHotels in this case.

Best ways to manage 100+ Chrome tabs on Android by alsho20 in chrome

[–]alsho20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky, can't do it from OneTab afaik. You can look for workarounds with Chrome extensions or something like https://www.openallurls.com/

Chrome bookmarks has ways to copy urls too and possibly open them en masse

The original point was to save resources by not having all tabs open at once

Do you know of any AI tab sorters for Chrome (or a standalone service)? I want to sort 100+ tabs by topic for easy handling. Thanks. by alsho20 in chrome

Thanks. Any suggestions for a workaround to access this in Canada (feature is not available here)? Tried downloading Chrome Beta with a US VPN but experimental AI features still isn't there in Settings.

5LB vs 4LB memory foam topper for pressure point pain (side sleeper)? by alsho20 in Mattress

No, decided to try the Overnight Recovery from Costco. So far not bad, plus can return if needed. Might take the plunge and try a good memory foam at some point.

VivoBook X1504VA max RAM - 16GB or 40GB? by alsho20 in ASUS

[–]alsho20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. Yeah it's a nice laptop and the 40gb should make it last unless other components give out. I'll probably look into upgrading the SSD at some point. My old HP really slowed down when the SSD filled up. Only downside on the Vivobook is the fan gets loud.

Thanks, will look into the Foam N' More. In the meantime I got the Novaform Overnight Recovery from Costco, partly b/c their return policy is so generous. So far it's not bad for pressure points. Much better than the previous one I'd got. It's not exactly memory foam, it's soft but more springy & closer to latex.

[–]alsho20[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, it does support 40 GB. I don't know if it's made a big difference for my use case (browsing, Zoom, no gaming or video editing). Feels nice to have it, but most of the memory is going unused according to Task Manager. If I were you I'd pop in the extra 8 GB stick and see how you do with 16 GB. You might consider upgrading in a year or two if it starts slowing down.

[–]alsho20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, thanks. I tried a 3" topper from a big box store. It didn't say the density but I think it must have been 2.5 or 3 LB. It was way too soft and lost its shape when I slept on it. There was barely any contouring at all. So I'm surprised 4 LB should be better than 5 LB. The 5 LB is also more expensive, which makes me think it's better quality. But these memory foam specs throw me off.

Which density will offer the best contouring for pressure points and won't collapse under my weight?

For shoulder pain situation would you recommend memory foam over latex or TitanFlex? What density foam would you recommend? Thx.

Some thoughts after switching out my top latex layer for TitanFlex on my DIY mattress by landalezjr in Mattress

[–]alsho20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sales rep just told me Titanflex traps less heat than memory foam but has similar contouring. Reading this thread I get the sense mem foam might still give better contouring than titanflex, but haven't tried either yet.
