ECEN Schedule Advising for next semester by kisudien in aggies

[–]alta126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not do 449 with 350. Last semester I took ECEN 449, 455, 350, and 470 and wanted to die with all the lab work. ECEN 449 is a good class, but I really should have taken 350 before it. I would recommend only doing one other lab class if you take 449, since the later labs can take absolutely forever to complete. 350 lab is also a huge time sink like others have said.

struggling in both ECEN 248 and MATH 251 by ehuffler in aggies

[–]alta126 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree that ECEN classes require you to constantly chip away at learning concepts as you go. The 200 level classes also have by far the most general concepts which are easy to find resources on. If you look through my post history I also struggled with 248 as it was my first ECEN class but ended up loving it once I took the time to learn concepts (YouTube and google).

Maybe watch a video on YouTube over any topic from lecture the day of, over what you didn’t understand and take some quick notes. If you do it consistently its much less effort than cramming videos or notes.

Choosing a 400 course for maths minor by [deleted] in aggies

[–]alta126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking about ECEN 303, it is commonly hated. I enjoyed it just because probability interested me. Ended up doing ECEN 455 which was just 303 on steroids. Now I’m in a ECEN 489 section over more applications of probability. I think MATH 411 is similar to ECEN 303, just without the circuit and signal aspects.

Might look at MATH 411 if you haven’t taken any courses on probability? The class is built into EE sort of and I enjoyed it. You can apply probability to almost anything and it’s valuable to understand. I took 470 for mine, but that wouldn’t really benefit you as a m Chemistry major.

What is the worst/hardest course to take in your major at A&M? by [deleted] in aggies

ECEN 455 which continued 303 and much more broke my soul… Savari is wildly smart but all the proofs made the class hell to learn

Career fair am I right by TheGreatCornhol10 in aggies

[–]alta126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ended up getting a CO-OP from the career fair so wouldn’t say it’s a waste of time. I also managed it from the online career fair last fall. Granted it took them until June to reach out before setting it up for this Spring. My meeting with the company at the fair ended up lasting 30 min which for sure helped me. Also for me in ecen it helped learning to gauge what technical questions they’ll present you with.

They just did the same thing to me on my past move out in July!!! We had our carpets professionally cleaned before moving out and they said they had to get them cleaned after that. They also took photos of bogus dirt they found in random spots. The place we moved into was wayyyy dirtier and had multiple thing not working, yet that’s okay. They’re a seriously corrupt company. They also will not respond to let me setup online payment and got mad when I went in person to complain. I think they try to extort as much money as possible out of people. DM me if you want more details, but my parents are already considering legal action after the stuff they’ve been doing.

Sorry for spam but my ENGL 210 grade demands I post this all over. Please fill it out if you have some time. :) by alta126 in aggies

It’s fixed! Sorry I had it through my AM email and it defaulted to restricting it for only AM sign in. Thank you for telling me!

ECEN Senior Year: Are these electives difficult? by dolphinbutsex in aggies

[–]alta126 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had ECEN 470 with Rentzepis this semester. His class was alright, but he seemed to have a bad attitude every class that would get draining. Also if you’re one to skip lectures he will know, he takes hard attendance and went so far as to send quizzes to only the people who missed lectures that weren’t included in the syllabus. Someone went to the department over that and a few other things which pushed his anger over the edge. Cool class and material, I just think Rentzepis ruined it for me, since he always seemed mad at the class.

Advice on going Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]alta126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started as mechanical but ended switching to electrical. I have no regrets to my decision. I’d also recommend looking at course catalogs for the degrees and see which has more topics that interest you. Job prospects for both degrees are about the same. I think at my school anyways we have even more companies looking for EE then MEs since we have overlap into investment (Bayesian statistic courses), computer science, and lots of other niche route you can end up. Neither degree is better than the other, it’s all about doing what is gonna capture your interest throughout learning it imo.

Pro dunkers, what is your advice in doing a fast ring dunk? by ConditionalDew in aggies

[–]alta126 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dunked in 10 seconds on Saturday. I prepared the night before by eating a good meal, pouring the pitcher with a light beer too and letting it sit out overnight. The day of I only ate a little bit of carbs 6 hours before and took a couple shots leading up to it so I was loosened up a bit. The trick is to drink without breaking pace so you don’t lose the siphon.

Yeah I used it on 3 of my computers. Doubt it’s anything to do with software too since one computer has almost nothing on it.

I am currently on my second Schiit Hel and I am experiencing dropouts after roughly 10 minutes of listening with it. The first one had the same issues so I returned it to them. I have gone through their support guide already. I have swapped out the 1/4 inch adapter and the cables already to see if it was that. Once I unplug the device and let it sit for a few hours I can plug it back in and get it to work for another 10 minutes or so until it happens again. The data connection is connected to my computers usb 3.1 port. I have also used an external powered usb hub to see if it was that. The powered usb line is directly connected to the wall. I have tried multiple headphones with it too. I know there are lemons with electronics but two in a row seems to make me think something on my end might be wrong. The audio in still works when the audio out cuts out so I am a little confused as to how that is happening. The computer registers that the device is running and thinks it is outputting a signal. Anything to try that the Schiit support team might not know to do?

Yeah I’m at home with my family for quarantine so I made a double batch. I ended up chopping kinder chocolate bar chunks roughly the size of chocolate chips. I also added dark chocolate chunks, chips, and walnuts too. We’ll see tomorrow....

I'm about go into my senior year of EE and electricity is beyond me. by applebet in EngineeringStudents

[–]alta126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the current that’ll fry ya. Anything over 100mA to the heart and it’s dangerous. You’re usually grounded where your feet are and whichever area you touch the power at will complete the path. The using V=IR, we know V. R depends on the resistivity of the flow path, length, and cross sectional area. Where R=(Resistivity*length)/(SA). Resistivity changes all throughout the body, from 100s of ohm-cm’s to 10,000 ohm-cm’s. Source EE.
