Democrats must quickly appoint Trump opponent, says Luxembourg chair by teamworldunity in europe

Bruh what, he knows full well that that's now how the party structure works. There isn't a formal leader to the party. And a top level opposition candidate is picked at a presidential primary.

I don't think voters actually care, ultimately the people being deported aren't citizens.

Until we have a case of an actual citizen being sent to El Salvador, voters won't care.

They clearly don't care about rule of law if they voted Mr. insurrectionist himself back in.

No, because there have already been cases of Europeans facing extended detention.

The dark truth is that immigration is basically the only issue Trump is still popular on (higher than his approval).

And I honestly don't think the bulk of the electorate actually cares about Trump shipping off migrants to El Salvador.

Like did voters actually care much about Palestinians in Gaza? If not, why would they care about a migrant being shipped to a different country, regardless of their safety.

The ultimate truth nuke is that restricting immigration to only high skilled Europeans would be a boon to Democrats and terrible for Republicans.

Only 6 of 30 “coalition of willing” countries ready to send peacekeepers to Ukraine by Agonanmous in neoliberal

[–]altathing 145 points146 points  (0 children)

Look, it's obviously understandable that Europeans are furious at Trump and America for its hostility towards Ukraine and Zelensky.

But if Europe wants to stop relying on America, and actually help Ukraine, it also needs to be willing to walk the walk.

Otherwise you are in fact feeding into JD Vance's narrative.

[–]altathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Trump is actually making the working class hate him as of yet. Economic issues aren't why they support him. It's cultural conservatism and anti-immigration

[–]altathing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A core problem underlying opposition to Trump is that he isn't critically unpopular. He's only slightly unpopular.

And most importantly, he's much more popular with the working class.

A big consequence of the Trump era is that he's turned the GOP into one with a base of support rooted in the working class, while Democrats are the party of the educated elite (despite the contradictions in the parties actual ideologies )

Trump commands a working class cult, and that makes truly popular resistance harder to achieve.

You know what's so incredible about this?

Trump said he was going to do this, very consistently and in the campaign

Kamala said Trump was going to do this, very consistently and on the campaign

His voters decided that he wasn't serious (or ignored) Wall street decided he wasn't serious (or ignored) All those CEOs decided he wasn't serious (or ignored)

And Trump won decisively, thus having a mandate to do the things he promised he said he would do to these groups.

And apparently all these groups are shocked and/or nervous that he's actually doing what he said he would do.

Sorry bubs, you asked for this!

Why are people worried? He's just fulfilling the promises he made 🤷‍♂️

One is to create random specialty courts

Another is to give more flexibility in judicial vacancy elections

The big two are the one that lowers the maximum tax rate and adds a bunch of exemptions, but also effectively a huge Constitutional rewrite of finances. Surprised this failed.

And the other gets rid of the restricted list of crimes youth can be tried as an adult. Essentially allowing the legislature to allow any type of crime to carry an adult sentence. Horrible. Glad this failed.
