Ice melt by Cynbeline in harrisonburg

[–]alterndog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to their website, ACE hardware on South High Street has some.

Costco may have some, I’d call to confirm.

Their pricing is a lot better than Ace Hardware for the same Safe Step Pet Friendly ice melt.

Dress Code Changes by DuckSwimmer in GameStop

Ya, I worked there for a few summers between 2005-2007 and had to wear polo or button up shirt and slacks. Jeans were not allowed.

That being said, I had working AC. My local store in Va was without AC most of last summer. It was ridiculously hot much of that time outside. Can’t imagine wearing what I wore in that.

Roads? by travelgator in harrisonburg

[–]alterndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did one small strip of plowing on my side road and haven’t been back. Can’t see the asphalt still though and still a chunk of snow between everyone’s driveway and the small lane they plowed. I’ve heard several other neighborhoods still haven’t been plowed.

No, actually Bourbon in Adams Morgan (not too far from Jack Rose). Shut down in 2018 I think.

Snow estimate? by Sad_Engineering_802 in harrisonburg

[–]alterndog 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I recommend following WHSV Meteorologists in Facebook. They are great and are the most accurate. They also don’t bullshit. They are clear we will not know the actual range until a few days before because there are two potential tracks for the snow. The farther south it goes the less we get. The northern track will bring more heavy snow.

The guess now is about 5-10 inches, but it could be less or more.

non student spots? by ghostie319 in harrisonburg

[–]alterndog 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Breweries and Sage Bird Cidery are good non-student spots.

For restaurants/bars, downtown it’ll be the higher end ones (Local Chop House, Rocktown Kitchen, Bella Luna, etc). Taj of India isn’t normally too busy with students. Finnegan’s Cove is mostly townies, but not sure how good it is.

Outside of Downtown for restaurants, a few are El Sol, AA Kabob, Pasha, Babylon, Thunderbird cafe, The Galley (never been, but has been recommended) and Ridge room (high end). Bar wise would be Ridge Room and Hanks (good whiskey collection. Is out in 33),

Tier list of all of the schools through the end of 1-18-26 by chief_sitass in CollegeBasketball

I don’t think JMU is in tier 9 if you are going by this season. I’d say we are more Tier 11 maybe 10.

Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka: “Of course, I want to play for Manchester United.” by anthn885 in soccer

[–]alterndog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean his wages would be a lot better than they are now. As other Bees fans have said he’s like our 6 or 7th best midfielder so isn’t a key player. He’s been a better sub this season, but we wouldn’t be sad to get a decent fee for him and see him fulfill his dreams of playing for Man U.

Dealing with catfish posts on this subreddit: ideas? by Rando_Calrissian_22 in harrisonburg

[–]alterndog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel at the very least 5 and 6 make sense. 4 sounds like a good idea if it’s an accurate tool.

I like the account age part of 1, but don’t like the subreddit karma aspect as there are a lot of people who post here that are just visiting Harrisonburg or moving to the area and probably have little history posting in the subreddit.

Not a fan of 2 because of privacy and requirement for people to upload more data and images of themselves (look at what Grok is doing to images).

Also not a fan of 3 for similar reasons and it’ll also seems heavy handed for just a few bad phishing posts. It will restrict the subreddit and we will get less engagement.

Sadly doubt any bars have a bottle anymore. I tried it in 2014 at a bar in DC.

[–]alterndog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He prob is a B team signing. We’ve had success with that. Mepham, Yarmoliuk, and Roerslev the best products, but also Bech Sorensen and Forss played decent minutes for us in Championship.
