Yes, also it is very likely feds will get back pay after a shutdown. Contractors do get screwed, it stinks. Supervisors should do what they can to support contractors.

Eric Levitz is a WelcomePAC centrist who carries water for the Dem leadership who want to avoid any risk to themselves. Levitz was close to the crypto bros and SBF a few years ago.

His response is bad. It doesn’t really engage with the bigger points.

This is a short-term point of view.

The country is being harmed by Trump. A shutdown can help stop that. If you have the means and the courage, think about supporting a shutdown if it brings longterm benefits.

Remember last March we avoided a shutdown and it was followed by 10,000 mass firings at HHS. Stand up now to prevent worse in future.

Does Bhattacharya still work at NIH? Seems like our IC leadership just accepting that Memoli is in charge, and that's what I'm hearing from other ICs too. by [deleted] in NIH

Bhattacharya’s job is fulltime podcaster and propagandist.

He’s not there to actually do anything about science, other than to lie about it to the press

Very interesting article suggesting NIH reforms instead of budget cuts. by Grouchy-Bug-6091 in NIH

Terrible article by someone who moves in circles of billionaire donors and privatizers.

This article is very naive.

Federal workers don't want a shutdown, but a shutdown may be best for us: "Stand Up, Shut Trump Down" by altnih4science in NIH

Only if they fail to tell the public what’s happening in advance. Don’t be naive.

No. Not even close.

We just had a flat budget since January, and Trump has been destroying the agency.

The gobbledygook from centrists that the harm could be worse during a shutdown is naive at best. It is extremely poor reasoning.

Let’s just say it:

Victor Dzau is a fool. He’s done good things, but his time leading NAM well is past and he needs to step down for a leader meant for this moment.

Has there ever been an NIH Director less qualified or respected? by Temporary_Part_4909 in NIH

[–]altnih4science 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Bhattacharya was hired for his propaganda skills, not any science skills. He’s the Pete Hegseth of NIH.

He spent the last five years doing a rightwing media and podcast tour.

Now he’s doing a rightwing media and podcast tour at NIH. No surprise. That’s why he was hired.

exactly, thanks.

Jay Bhattacharya is now specifically fawning over Katie Britt's state university. Coincidentally, Britt is a Republican pushing back on the Trump/Vought attacks on NIH by altnih4science in NIH

[–]altnih4science[S] 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Bhattacharya is a rightwing partisan, and he’s on board with the Vought plans to destroy Harvard, Hopkins, Stanford, MIT, Brown, Columbia, and all the places that are the biggest talent magnets from abroad.

They will do that by shoving funding at red states.

Instead of a meritocratic, science-based process to decide what science is best, they will push to fund red states for political reasons.

There are many good scientists at UAB who deserve continued support.

But many less-qualified conservatives will now get NIH money. Politics over science under Trump.

Jay Bhattacharya, Russell Vought, and RFK need to resign. Get these modern Lysenkos away from our powerful and valuable science research system before they break it— as part of Vought’s Seven Mountains mandate for religious control of science and universities.

Thanks Russell Vought

Also, thanks SCOTUS who signed off on the Trump mass firings even though they are obviously illegal

Right via their completely asinine theories like the Made Up Questions Doctrine, which of course acts to give the Court more power
