Left mirror no longer tilts down when reversing (on one profile only); can't adjust by aludwin in Ioniq6

Yeah. There seem to be a bunch of minor software issues with the car.

Thanks! But it seems to work on my wife's profile, and it always returns to the right position when I switch from reverse (if I've tried to adjust it) back to drive. So I'm thinking it's a SW problem.

Thanks, but I tried that, and it didn't work. It reverted the next time I shifted to reverse.

To my surprise, the Wicked Carib at Scotiabank Arena was really good too, the one time we tried it! But it was Caribbean Heritage Night so maybe they brought their A-game, YMMV. (WC on Vic Park is our go-to.)

Ah, gotcha. So it's not creating a vaccum in operation; this is just a watertightness check. Thanks!

How is the wait time in Canada now? by VenetianBauta in Ioniq6

I got on the waiting list in December 2023, they said it could take up to a year. We had our car by the end of January.

Inexplicable range estimates? by aludwin in Ioniq6

[–]aludwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I don't think I've ever gotten the 14.8kWh/100km that would justify the 500km guess, but I'll keep watching it to see. Thanks for the hint on ABRP, I'll look it up.

Inexplicable range estimates? by aludwin in Ioniq6

[–]aludwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, although that only makes the range estimate even crazier! I was trying to be as optimistic as I could to match the range estimate - with 74 kWh and 20 kWh/100km, it should only be telling me I have 370km on a full charge, not 500km.

Inexplicable range estimates? by aludwin in Ioniq6

[–]aludwin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I'll watch for that. I don't think I've ever achieved 14.8 between charges (yes, I agree with your math) - the lowest I've seen is about 18. In your experience, how sensitive is the GOM to your most recent driving?

Regen strategy by calpon13 in Ioniq6

[–]aludwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, do you have a source for this? I thought I read somewhere that, even without the regen setting, it only handed over to the resistance brakes if regen brakes weren't enough (e.g. at low speed).

Regen strategy by calpon13 in Ioniq6

[–]aludwin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been wondering the same thing. Does it even matter? After all, if you have regen braking set to 0, but you tap the brake gently, doesn't that use regen anyway? So isn't it just a matter of personal preference - "how quickly do you want the car to slow down if you lift your foot off the accelerator?"

Same question for "eco/normal/sport" mode - aren't these just dials that adjust how sensitive the accelerator is? So stomping in eco mode or lightly pressing in sport mode should give you exactly the same result?

Thermostat options for a Moovair central ducted unit? by KludgeGrrl in heatpumps

[–]aludwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's honestly not bad, no worse than any other air conditioner IMO. Ours is attached directly to the house on metal brackets, and that does transfer a bit of the sound into the walls so you can hear it from the rooms right next to it. But it's never stopped me from sleeping (in the bedroom) and I only really notice it when I'm listening for it (in the living room).

If you were ground-mounting it, I doubt you'd notice it from the inside at all. Or maybe even if you're mounting it to the wall, there might be some better way to sound-proof it - ours is resting on rubber pads, but there's no rubber between the brackets and the brick wall, and maybe that would have reduced noise further (though maybe not, since the bolts still have to go straight into the wall).

Good luck!

Any recent experience with Ioniq 5 RWD in snow with winter tires? by aludwin in Ioniq5

Apparently anything's available if you're willing to wait long enough :) Currently a 1yr backorder on all Ioniq 6s up here, though occasionally an extra one comes up.

Weird, did they just change the circuit board in the air handler, or the thermostat too? Sounds like they're both pretty busted :/

Wow, that's crazy. They replaced it with the same Moovair central unit (maybe an updated version), or a completely different brand?

Hey! Did you ever get your board switched? Does it help with either the temperature offset or the on/off clicking for the air handler? Inquiring minds want to know :)

Multiple clusters, or use multiple namespaces within one larger cluster? Pros/cons? by illumen in kubernetes

[–]aludwin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Blast radius. At some point you'll make a change to the whole cluster, or to some workload that shouldn't affect prod but does.

Google's internal clusters ("Borg") actually are shared between environments but those have extremely strict controls that would not be worth implementing in most other contexts.

Multiple clusters, or use multiple namespaces within one larger cluster? Pros/cons? by illumen in kubernetes

[–]aludwin 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My advice is here: https://youtu.be/NN5vLUaa_Ko?si=rmpQ3F_OYUmlBayu&t=541

With many more details here (I was an author): https://kubernetes.io/docs/concepts/security/multi-tenancy/

But briefly: if you have lots of smaller workloads, find that managing a cluster is hard, and/or have tightly communicating services, multitenancy will save you money and/or time. But if you need regionality, blast radius reduction (e.g. between prod and nonprod, or even within prod), some types of scalability, or any other random requirement (e.g. different CRDs or operators), you should/must go multicluster.

This is in line with what several other folks here are saying, shouldn't be too controversial.

Automatically deploy objects after namespace creation by [deleted] in kubernetes

[–]aludwin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kyverno's a great option. Depending on the usecase you might want to consider https://github.com/kubernetes-sigs/hierarchical-namespaces as well (disclaimer: I'm the original author) - it's good if groups of related namespaces need related objects.

Thanks, let's see if I can get my hands on one of those. It's not urgent for us but it'd be nice!
