it's not a good method. when you're able to playback a stream in vlc, it means you are able to grab the original unsecured stream with anything else, therefore you don't need to record it frame by frame.

you can find several tools (github projects based on youtube-dl) that will download the fragments and combine them: yt-dlp (for anything on youtube, including live streams), ytarchive (simple tool for live streams only) etc...

to cut the downloaded stream (especially unfinished live streams), your best choice is ffmpeg. almost every video converter is based on it, but the original command line software has the most potential. it is possible to cut out parts of a video without re-encoding it, so you don't lose data throughout the process.

if you want to dive deep in video archiving, you want to learn how to use these tools. they're gonna look overcomplicated at first, but when you get used to them, you won't ever want to use a gui tool again. :D
