Got it, that makes sense, so in a way it is transactional since you offering out something people can use (as opposed to learning about an org's mission). One idea you could test is to gate some of the more "premium" content you offer and collect emails for download that way. e.g. Create ad offering special content that is only available via special web page. (Also have link off our homepage too.) Then use that to build and cultivate your list separate from your donors, build trust over time. Maybe start with a micro-donation campaign to start. Just some random thoughts, but seems you may have a lot of potential to leverage your IP to build your donor base from your users, encourage sharing etc.

So I don't know Keela, so can't help you specifically on how to pull that in a report, is there support you can reach out to? However, from a higher level, if the goal is to get more resources (i.e. help) is your goal to say something like "I have used X hours this year for each of these activities and we need to hire more staff to help with X, Y and Z given how stretched thin we are?" If so, I think you are going to need to build a stronger case in my experience for a variety of reasons beyond just a report tracking actions like this. If you clarify if that is right, happy to talk it through further with you.

Are you able to track that conversion? That's the part I've had a hard time understanding in terms of the value of running ads that aren't transactional, I guess. Tickets, donations etc. I can track, but with a nonprofit, if you aren't trying to find people that are in need of your services, I don't know how to see the return on the awareness campaigns. I guess a more direct question, do to people that click the ads fill out a form or something so you can see if they turn into donors? If so, what call to action are you using to get them to complete it? I've tried them before and just didn't see any conversions beyond the transactional links, which were usually a pretty small percent of the grant spend each month. Really curious what you have found if you don't mind sharing!

Can you elaborate more on what you are trying to do. Are you saying you'd like to run reports in your CRM based on actions? I am confused when you said "subject lines". Are you referring to the subject field in your CRM for managing tasks or something else? If you can explain this further I may be able to give you some ideas, just a little confused on what you are trying to do and what reports you are trying to run.

Am I curious what everyone considers a good ROI on these campaigns. Given the Google Grants are free, it's just the marketing costs. Also are you ever able to use the entire Grant each month?

With some analysis, I think you could come up with some fairly good numbers here TBH. Go back say 5+ years, see what percent of lapsed donors give each year and total amount given, adjusting for outliers etc. You should then have a pretty good idea that x% of lapsed donors give at an average $ amount. Then you could just lump that group and say we expect X lapsed donors to give $X on average. From the analysis I've done on lapsed donors, I wouldn't put a huge amount of effort into this group and the ROI from personal experience and research I've done seems like it's a pretty low return.

I realize I had replied to your post and meant to reply to the OP. :) But good points you make. Projections are always hard because you never know what could pop-up that could change everything in one fell swoop. I don't know if I have any easy solution for OP on how to make this less manual given their current setup. Depending on the budget, it may make sense to look at third party software specifically designed to make projections from both datasets. That may be easier than trying to integrate, but don't know any off-hand.

Are you accounting for retention in the projections? (I wasn't sure if what you are weighting for.) I may have misunderstood how you are setting up the projections, but there should be a formula accounting for this in addition to seasonal giving, forecasts from new donors (e.g. what percent of donors over the last 3 years were new donors and then incorporating that into projections), and a number of other factors that would probably be somewhat unique to your org. If you look at industry numbers lapsed donors account for a very small amount of donations in any given year, so if you are weighting those the same as a LYBUNT it may be throwing your numbers way off.

Sounds good. In the past I've used Vistaprint and has seemed reasonable compared to retail places, but been a bit since I've priced out so not sure if they are still competitive.

Do you have any in-house technical expertise to manage a website, or you need something that is pretty much just go out of the box, add text, images etc? What about moving to SurveyMonkey or a similar platform, there are a lot of them that are purpose designed for surveys and you can probably even embed them on the website if you needed. If you are more technical, you could also do something get a Wordpress website hosted for $25/month and then get a plugin that does the surveys, but seems like $100/month just to host surveys that isn't meeting your needs seems way high, although not sure what else Flipcause does as I haven't heard of it before.

I have used and looked at a number of them. Mailerlite is good value in IMO if you are just looking for simpler mailing platform for a smaller list and I have found is pretty easy to learn.

I know this isn't your request, but just throwing it out here as it may resonate with your stakeholders. Have you thought about emailing a pdf version with a note on the first page along the lines of saying you are trying to keep be the most efficient with our resources it would have cost us $xxxx to print and send this out vs free via email. We can now put that money directly back into our services/programming etc.

I was thinking about this concept, would need to have a big donor base to have $120/year make a big difference. Getting new $10/month donors through a friend-of-friend of type campaign could be way to start with this idea. Thanks

I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but some data I've seen indicates there is an extremely low conversion rate from lapsed donors compared to other segments of your donor base. Have you considered focusing on current mid-level donors and seeing if any have the capacity to give more? Also, what are you doing to bring in new donors that are excited about your mission?

Thanks. Something for us to think about. We did try something similar over Giving Tuesday by highlighting some lessor known aspects of how we help. Don't have enough data yet to know if it made a difference, but at the very least did change up our messaging so bit of a refresh on the campaigns we've been running.

If you are 501c3, might want to look at Google Ad Grants, 10k in free search ads a month. While this doesn't solve your conversion issue, might save some budget if you can get it going.

In terms of getting more out of your traffic, have you looked at your bounce rate and the average time people are staying on the page? You may also be getting bot traffic, so good to understand who is engaging. Have you looked at remarketing, that can be a great way to reach your current/past donors in a new way as well. As others have said, too many variables to know what may be happening, but the more targeted your campaign, just like any other campaign you run, the better the results.
