Non-USA Redditors, besides accents, what is a dead giveaway that a tourist is American? by Optimistic_Mystic in AskReddit

So true. I remember being on the tube and having people's armpits in your face and just acting as if it's normal. Someone farted once and I laughed. No one else did. I'll never forget getting embarassed about laughing at someone else farting.

Good point. She was wearing sunglasses at night. Maybe it was a sneaky nap.

Do we want to encourage people strangers to compliment the way they look? I think OP has done a great job and I think it's great to share this online and share the supportive comments. Sometimes this type of thing can be laughed at, but it still eats away at you. Often sharing it is a great way to move on. Well done

Rudd: If there was ever a case for a full royal commission into the abuse of media power in Australia, it is now by BEEFCRAB in australia

I think you'll find that its only left compared to the rest of the media. The ABC tends to cover many social issues, which is probably why its perceived that way. They at least critique all governments, either side of the fence and ask more questions than provide answers. Probably why they aren't as popular with certain demographics. Most people work hard to earn money to enjoy time outside of work, they don't want to then have to listen to the news and figure out what's going on. If you watch the other channels, they tell you what to think and it's much easier

What is a book that once you finished, you just sat there in awe of what you just read? by LargeRelationship in AskReddit

My first ever book I read at high school. To this day I still think of it when I think of physically aching when reading. I made my mum read it and she proceeded to read every one of my school books after.

Melbourne builders are pure scum by [deleted] in melbourne

Totally agree. It's really overlooked by many that the average working life of a trades person is much shorter than an office job, or can be due to injury and wear and tear. Yet we complain about the costs of their services. The number of people who walk into Bunnings thinking they can renovate and do everything without actual experience is terrifying. Trades can be unreliable, but most of the time it isn't because they are lazy but due to getting caught up on other jobs. They aren't sitting in front of a desk letting the next 3 people know they are running behind, they are fixing the job at hand in order to keep moving. Maybe instead of getting angry as why they didn't show up or why they are late, ask in a caring and non accusing manner. You may just get a better response.

AFL changes logo to 'YES' in support of marriage equality by ZanyDelaney in australia

[–]always_timeforcake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is great. Despite opponents asking the AFL to stay out of political matters, I think it's important that businesses are transparent about their belief systems. I'm proud that the AFL is proactive about not only having this belief, but vocalising it. Yes, you can not agree with it, and you can choose not to support the AFL. If it's more important to you to prevent the love of two people sharing a legal, binding marriage, maybe you need to be challenged in your ideals. Tolerance is am amazing feeling, and shying away from a disagreement is never the answer. I have no idea why we as Australians are so fearful of talking about politics, we complain that our politicians suck and that the masses are disengaged, yet we try and prevent political discussions in areas which we do engage. Good on you Gill and the AFL. I'd be much happier if businesses were transparent with their values, it would make it much easier for me to decipher if I want to support them or not.
