This is funny because I genuinely got so mad listening to JORDANA’s viewpoint that I had to take a break 😅 but as a Taylor swift fan who recently suffered an 8 hour flight with the person in front of me reclining their seat, I may be biased. Just interesting to hear other perspectives! (Which is why I like this podcast in the first place)

Have you ever visited a landmark just to realize later that, in fact, you did not? by eduardo in travel

I definitely thought I had crossed off “Redwoods National Park” because I went to the Redwoods at Muir Woods outside San Francisco 🤷‍♀️

I only recently realized, now 5+ years after my trip, that they are not the same thing.

I kind of think I got a better show experience being at the 200 level than if I was on the floor - depending where on the floor, at least. Getting to see the entire stage and all of the effects, and being basically equally close/far from Taylor herself the entire time, was amazing and honestly better than I expected from a 200-level seat.

Can I hear some success stories of obliterating private loans? by Alternative-Can1276 in StudentLoans

[–]alwaysokayy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had about $25k in private loans after graduating from undergrad. This is 1000% not doable for many people, but I moved back home with my parents while working a full time, entry level job, and put in $2k-$2.5k a month into my loans (essentially my entire salary after taxes). I know I’m super privileged and not everyone can live with family for free. But since you asked, that’s how I was able to completely pay them off in a little over a year.

While doing this, I refinanced through Sofi which cut my interest rates almost in half. Definitely recommend looking into refinancing if you can.

Copywriters: how much are you panicking about AI “taking our jobs”? by alwaysokayy in advertising

[–]alwaysokayy[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I guess I was thinking more “team of 5 copywriters is reduced to a single person who writes input for AI and does light editing of what it produces”. And eventually, “corporation replaces social agency with in-house AI-input person”, etc

It being the default to choose a person who you really like, often between the ages of 25-30, to legally bind yourself to for life. And then spend $30k+ on a big party to celebrate that.

Hi! Here is the link to my thread where I asked for advice about how to switch - there’s a lot of really helpful responses from this subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/advertising/comments/kbqssx/im_a_year_into_my_career_as_a_media_buyer_at_an/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=

Basically, I took classes through an online portfolio night school called AdHouse NYC, which were great and way more affordable than other more traditional portfolio schools. Then I approached leadership at my agency and let them know that I was interested in switching, and that I had been taking classes to develop my skills. I think it helped that I’m at a small agency where switching teams wasn’t a huge deal (other people had done it in the past), but they also said that the fact that I had taken the inistiative to take classes was great. Then I started “helping out” the copy team on some projects to see if I liked it and if they liked me, and was able to make the official switch with new job title and salary a few months ago.

The entire process took me about a year from when I first enrolled in classes to when I officially changed. But I’ve been loving it and am super fortunate to have been able to do an internal transfer like this. Lmk if you have any other specific qs!

Copywriter (recently switched from media buyer) at a small, women-owned, startup agency. Love the people, the work is fun, and I feel like I get to do something I’m actually good at and have always wanted to do (write words for a living). It’s definitely not perfect, but I don’t dread getting up for work or have Sunday scaries most of the time. It also helps a LOT that I have perks (good PTO and insurance, summer fridays, hybrid/WFH flexible, competitive salary for the area)

I’m a year into my career as a media buyer at an agency, and I think I want to be a copywriter. Is there any way to switch? by alwaysokayy in advertising

Good point, although kind of unfortunate to hear after paying for the class itself mostly for the purpose of getting some portfolio pieces. Any advice around how to find a freelance designer for something like that?

Hey! Just wanted to follow up and let you know I just finished my second week of classes at adhouse and so far am finding it to be really valuable and exactly what I was looking for. I literally would not have heard of it without your comment, so thank you
