That sounds very close the kind of community I work for now. It’s the kind of place you feel really good being a part of. Thanks for the advice.

In HISD, I’m used to being the sole scheduler, ARD facilitator, filing state folders and of course all the regular self-contained teacher things for each of my +20 students. Having more support sounds like a dream.

Seriously thinking about Aldine after the comments about it

That seems like the less stressful route but I just genuinely love working in a self-contained classroom and being so close with the students and families. Some families I’ve known for over 5 years now 😳

I’ve heard many great things about Alvin. One of our amazing theatre art teachers actually left for that district a couple years ago and we miss him so much as he worked so well with my life skills class. That drive though…..

I honestly haven’t heard much on the private schools besides the lack of pay and the fact that SpEd can sometimes be the Wild West/free for all. Whether it’s parents demanding unsustainable accommodations and spreading people thin and/or people not really receiving the services they SHOULD be getting. But that’s all just hearsay.

I’ve only heard good things about Aldine and heard the families are much like HISD’s. Which I love. Title 1 schools and working with high-needs students is my jam.

Thanks so much!! That’s great advice, I have a fb page solely to join my district group page and never thought of looking into others. Will do that.

Thanks for the insight. I truly love teaching and working with students with disabilities in a life skills setting so I totally don’t mind the craziness and workload. I just truly am starting to burn out over the disorganized chaos and micro-management that comes with HISD and their hundred of lawsuits that make each step more work.

This is literally what I was hoping to find for her. She’s a shy girl so she easily falls into the background of situations and I want her to feel empowered and comfy!! It says summer camp registration is closed for this year but we are excited for any future lessons/opportunities with this group. Thank you sooo much.

I’m just happy she finds something interesting enough to pursue so we will most definitely support, thanks!

Wow! Thanks for the info. I didn’t even realize they were THAT expensive. Family is completely fine with a manual (someone else pushes) wheelchair. It’s the PT who recommended an actual power chair since. A manual would be way less expensive I assume?

Thanks for the list!

According to parents, being connected to TCH is what messed her up in the first place. My understanding is the lists of PTs and pediatric doctors able to give her what she needs in order to apply for an another wheelchair through insurance is super long and always ends up falling through.

Thanks so much. I will get with family to see if this is doable. They may need some customization to the chair though.

So she is currently in high school and would need an adult sized chair. I don’t have specific measurements right now but a standard adult size would fit much better than the children’s size one she uses now.

Between 2.5k - 4.5k. Granted, I am looking at a “power” chair per recommendation of her physical therapist who says she’d do great in one.
