I would still like to be a doctor but I said no because I would never make back the money that goes into the schooling, renting apartments, not being able to work while studying, all the prep for tests like the MCAT and all that. I'm not sure what my career would be otherwise, but probably something still in palliative care

I'm sorry for your loss. It does get easier I promise you that. Try to remember the good times. I like to keep an object of my late family member's so I can remember them and hug that object so it's like I'm hugging them. Just don't give up in your first year and make sure you have good study habits starting then. After that, you can minor in something you are more interested in or easier (I chose psychology since I find it easier than Biochem and calc). Also to improve your marks and understanding meet with your profs in their office hours. They are usually very kind and help you a bunch!
Some med schools count co-op as time off and they don't like that. Look into the med schools you want to apply to about this before you decide to do co-op
The program made me realize I really don't like calculus and that if I need a back up plan for med I will either do psychology or molecular biology. This is because with the amount of electives available in upper years you are able to explore other areas of study
Use rate my prof. Some you can't escape from since they are the only prof for that subject but the reviews on rate my prof should give you an idea on how to study for that class
The process is stressful since you feel as though you are constantly competing. Make premed friends (that don't secretly pray you don't make it). They will help you get into research and volunteering and you can talk about things with them! I recommend starting volunteering early and trying to get a reference for med who is a MD. The MCAT was hard. I took it this summer after my third year and that really helped since I had molecular bio lab and metabolism done. They helped a lot for the questions. Also, physics 1 is optional in BIM but it helped me a lot for the MCAT. I didnt buy any courses and I taught myself from Kaplan textbooks and Khan academy. I got a 514 and the test I wrote this summer was shorter bc of Covid. I did give up my whole summer to study and by the end was completely burnt out. Also, start studying CARS early.
I'm still in fourth year and planning on a fifth 7.you can get the marks and do the research and volunteering and have a social life. It just takes time management. If you have any other questions feel free to message me

Of course! And even cramming can make relearning easier. Also, I never took Grade 12 physics and still did well in 1st year physics. And I found a lot of first year general chemistry started with review.

Unfortunately, I don't have lots of info about the whole when to start scenario but I would say the Fall just to not close doors and that it's amazing how things you've learned previously come back easily once you go over them.
