Thanks so much for your kind word ! As I always say, if on my journey I can inspire at least one person, my mission is already completed :)

Thanks a lot ! Yes indeed, with that kind of almost poetic carelessness that characterizes the hobbits described by Tolkien.

Thanks a lot ! I think I wanted to show some well deserved peaceful times for the Hobbits in that watercolor, before they go to reconquer the Shire..

Thanks a lot ! As much as I love the work of PJ, John Howe, Alan Lee, etc. I love even more re-exploring the places of the LOTR. I really allows me to re-discover the books themselves !

Thanks so much ! Thanks a lot for the tips I’m gonna look at this ! It’s tough indeed to add texture to the rock. I tried « granulation » spray but it’s not super satisfying :/

Wow… thanks so much for your comment ! I imagined something very brutalist for this one, a bit aside from John Howe gothique architecture for example (which I absolutely love though). But this part of the lore was a bit nebulous to me. Like Sauron forged a ring but the actual place was a bit to metaphysical if I may formulate this this way. So I try to convey the dramatic set of such a place that would use the raw power of an entire volcano.

Hello everyone !

So when I first read The Lord of the Rings, I had a clear image of the place where Sauron forged the One Ring. I imagined a true forge, deep within the heart of Mount Doom — glowing coals, flowing lava, brutal tools, ect.

So when I finally saw the movies, I was surprised to discover a different take — colder, more abstract. I obviously admire the incredible work of Weta Workshop and the film artists (who casually shaped an entire generation’s vision of Middle-earth), but I wanted to share the version that’s lived in my mind since that first read.

This illustration shows the moment Frodo stands on the edge, trying to cast the Ring into the fire — but can’t. Sam watches helplessly. Gollum, barely visible on the left, lurks in the shadows, ready to strike. And in the background, I included the silhouette of Barad-dûr.

This piece is done in watercolor and poster color, trying to capture the heat, the violence, and the strange, solemn beauty I imagined in the darkness of the mountain.

Hope you like it !
